Bloc may receive only half of purchased 100m doses in first quarter of the year
The EU has threatened to block exports of coronavirus vaccines to countries outside the bloc such as Britain, after AstraZeneca was accused of failing to give a satisfactory explanation for a huge shortfall of promised doses to member states.
The pharmaceutical company’s new distribution plans were said to be “unacceptable” after it “surprisingly” informed the European commission on Friday that there would be significant shortfalls on the original schedule.
The EU has been due to receive 100m doses in the first quarter of this year. But it is feared that the bloc will only receive half of that despite making large advance purchases ahead of authorisation of the vaccine by the European medicines agency.

This is outrageous, and all too predictable. The EU Covid-19 vaccine program was flagged earlier as a mess, and we are now seeing how these politicians and bureaucrats are reacting (see below).

If the EU did this to stick it to Britain for BREXIT, then is not honorable, but it is the way of the world.
To stick it to fellow socialist Trudeau is just stupid. Some more of such treatment and Trudeau will have to get back at the EU or look like a little, lost boy.
The EU could give Canada vaccine based an proportional to population or somewhat less. But to give none at all is again, stupid.

Was the EU contract feasible at the price they set or at any price? Does an y jackanape know how to do ERP?
To ramp production assuming that China sells the precursors takes overtime pay, maybe line expansion, new hires and training and increased quality vigilance (new people, fatigue, higher tempo). That costs money.
Astro-Zeneca might have agreed on terms with the EU bureaucrats out of regulatory fear and signed too quickly before all the cost accounting was done. Maybe the Russian troll can weigh in.
Considering our Oxford Uni / Astra Zeneca vaccine is a fraction of the cost of the Pfizer vaccine. Plus, without the laters storage issues, the EU can keep the Pfizer vaccine to themselves if they want to play this game, and we will withdraw their use of our Oxford Uni / Astra Zeneca.
Fuk u EU!!!!.... Then where will they be?
They do not hold the power on this issue.
