LONDON (Reuters) - The Scottish National Party published a "Roadmap to Referendum" on Saturday, laying out plans for another vote on Scottish independence just as the United Kingdom grapples with COVID-19 and the impact of Brexit.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who would have to agree to a new referendum, argues there is no need for a new vote after independence was rejected by Scottish voters in 2014.
But the SNP has said that if it wins a parliamentary majority at elections scheduled for May 6, it will pass its own bill so that a referendum can take place once the pandemic is over.

WNU Editor: From my experience. countries that break up always end up suffering for a long period of time. I have personally experienced the damage that the break-up of the Soviet Union brought. The divisions that now split Ukraine. And the province of Quebec (Canada), where I live and where the issue of independence has set back the economy and social cohesion for generations.
I also saw the damage that the break-up of Czechoslovakia, and need I remind anyone on what happened when Yugoslavia broke up.
If Scotland wants to be an independent nation, my advice to them is to be very clear on the question, and to not sugarcoat what the consequences will be.

So Scotland wants to change pools. Leave a pool where it was a big fish for a pool where it is so small nobody will know its swimming.
Smart.
Funny that you dont talk about the Baltic countries and how poor they here under Soviet rule and how good they are doing by being Independent
Funny that you dont talk about Azerbaijan or even Armenia
The Scottish National Party should be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act. The SNP politicians don't want to be a small independent democractic nation & run themselves. They want to be part of the 4th Reich & be ruled by Berlin via Brussels. Maybe they should rebrand as the Scottish EU Party or the National Socialist Scottish Workers Party. Keep ducking 🙉
Soviet union had no qualms about cutting Czechoslovakia up. Zakarpattia Oblast still has not found its way back to Czechoslovakia.
Does it matter, if Czechoslovakia is now Czech Republic and Slovakia, since they are in the EU?
City, state, national and supranational government is too much overhead. It is more overhead than IBM and other sclerotic conglomerates had before their break up.
If one drew an analogy between brain metabolism and government as a proportion of GDP, A person might consider that a government that took more than 25% of the economy was dangerous to the people and the incompetent that "led" them.
"Brain metabolism accounts for ∼20-25% of resting energy demands in an adult human body. This is far more than the 8-10% observed in other primate species, and still more than the 3-5% allocated to the brain by other (non-primate) mammals (Leonard and Robertson, 1994)."
WSJ has reported that high marginal tax rate or low marginal tax rate the government got revenues of approximately 22%. Maybe that is an important stat and measure of government efficiency. If a government takes 22% and gets done everything it needs to get done, it is fit for use. If not sooner or later it will fall.
Maybe the Nostrodamus looking lady from Scotland might consider government efficiency and not what the chatttering classes think is right.
If a brain took up 50% of all metabolic requirements of a body, would the gut be able to supply it?
bn
All the former Soviet states went through a rough time.
Russia included.
The Baltics went through a rough 10 to 15 years. And like most Soviet states they still have problems.
Ditto for Armenia and Azerbaijan.
+500 on that the Bobby said.
What part of 'Once in a lifetime referendum' do they not get? They had their chance.
Their devolved powers need to be taken back if they attempt this stunt...
