On Wednesday, a mob apparently composed of Trump supporters forced its way past US Capitol security guards and briefly moved unrestrained through much of the Capitol building.
They displayed virtually no organization and no clear goals.
The only deaths were on the side of the mob, with one woman—apparently unarmed—shot dead by panicky and trigger-happy Capitol police, with three others suffering nonspecific “medical emergencies.”

WNU Editor: Being one who has personally witnessed an attempted coup (1993 Russian constitutional crisis), as well as covering through this blog dozens of coup attempts and coups over the years. What happened on Wednesday was not a coup.
Not even close.
But that is not to minimize what happened on Wednesday.
As I had mentioned in a commentary yesterday. These buildings are sacred, and those who endanger these institutions and/or disrupt what happens in them must be punished .... which I am confident that they will be.
But accusing them of committing a coup even though some of the rioters said that this is what they wanted to do.
Give me a break.

When I awoke yesterday I was very surprised to hear that 4 people died. The death count later went up to 5. Watchibg the CNN coverage I saw a window being smashed, a scuffle inside the building between the police & protesters & footage of the unfortunate lady allegedly shot by the police. Each segment of footage lasted mere seconds. Despite Wolf Blitzer's & other CNN commentators rhetoric, "riot & insurrection, attempted coup" etc, the overwhelming number of people in CNNs own footage appeared to be very peaceful. Without doubt there would be cases of assault & criminal damage. They will need to be dealt with in a proper legal manner by the police. It's not unheard of & does occasionally happen in London that some peaceful protests are highjacked by small groups of people intent on attacking the police & damaging property. I think that this may be the case here or perhaps something more sinister. Questions.. I've been watching American politics & media for years. I suspected that the demo would be large with the possibility of some public disorder. From what I saw on CNN, & that is limited footage, there appeared to be a lack of police at the scene. It appeared that very few resources, if any, were deployed to police the protest, or to adequately protect the building. If this protest took place at Parliament in London, Parliament would have been ringed by Level 3 foot duty serials & Level 2 shield serials. Level 1 & level 2 shield serials would be in reserve with other specialist units such as dog sections & mounted branch & other specialists. They would be plotted about close by in several locations to be mobilised if required.There simply appeared to be no planning what so ever by the police force for this event. I find this mind boggling. The police should have agents inside these left-right wing organisations to provide Intel of dates, times, places of events, form up points, numbers expected, weapons, tactics to be employed, & intentions etc so that the building, property, the public & police can be protected. This building & city look to be very soft targets for terrorists to assault. Was this a come on for the protesters so that the events & sad deaths of 5 Americans can be exploited for the purpose that legislation can be brought in for the establishment to engage in further jiggerypokery? Was this a Reichstag/Gleiwitz moment? With the rhetoric coming out of the Democratic party & media, there appears to be little appetite for reconciliation & bringing the people back together. Are the politicians talking & listening to each other? Doesn't appear to be the case. I'm a wee bit worried about the future of friends & family in the USA. One of the things that I will most remember about President Trump is the decrease in drug prices on his watch. I have relatives who are elderly. This 30% to 50% savings has been huge. As the only new variable to the equation, the person who gets the lion share of the credit is President Trump.
Obviously Democrats have made up their minds. I consider the would hope and pray that Republicans would consider the overall good President Trump has done as they ponder impeachment and treat the case similar to general Petraeus's case. Obviously holding a rally at that point was poor judgement. It not only distracted from a stolen election and the objections to this but has cast a shadow over much good that was done. A few lawbreakers have undermined things. We cannot allow such distractions.
As I understand it, Dominion is suing Sidney Powell. After helping facilitate an election steal their stock has to be enormous and with the massive media campaign on their behalf their coffers are full with contacts galore. As to wayward threats, their security can easily protect them and their obscenely rich team members. Doing this makes no sense.
In such a trial, normally Ms. Powell would be allowed to present evidence in her defense. This means the evidence FINALLY gets heard in a court!! Unless of course they plan on convicting Ms. Powell on "procedural grounds" without granting her due process. I'd expect Republicans in Congress to be better than such things.
