Russian Diplomats Leave North Korea By Hand-Pushed Trolley

A group of Russian diplomats and their families made an unusual exit out of North Korea on a hand-pushed rail trolley due to strict Covid measures.

The eight people travelled by train and bus before pushing themselves across the Russian border for about 1km (0.6miles) over train tracks.

North Korea has blocked most passenger transport to limit the virus' spread.

The country maintains it has not had any confirmed cases, but observers dispute this claim.

Since early last year, trains and wagons have been forbidden to enter or leave the country.

Most international passenger flights have stopped as well.

The Russian diplomats were thus left with little choice.

WNU Editor: It took this group 32 hours to travel from Pyongyang to 1km from the Russian border. And from there by hand-pushed trolley to the border. 32 hours on a train and bus!!!!! To travel a distance that would take only a few hours by car. That tells you how poor North Korea really is.

On a side note. Diplomats from Germany, Russia, France, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Mongolia and Egypt waited for a special plane sent to Pyongyang to take them out of the country. Russian diplomats are told to get home on their own. Sighhhh ... as a former minor Soviet diplomat it looks like nothing has changed over the years.

"Russian diplomats are told to get home on their own."

Look on the positive side. Maybe as individuals the Russian diplomats are tougher and smarter, because they have to be. There is no bureaucracy to 'carry them'. Therefore it is less likely that someone's dumb nephew could float to the top. Could totally be mistaken.
