US State Department calls the accusation by Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu ‘unfounded and irresponsible’.
Turkey’s interior minister has accused the United States of being behind a 2016 failed coup that Ankara has blamed on a US-based Muslim preacher and businessman, Turkish daily Hurriyet reported, at a time when Turkey is seeking improved ties with its NATO ally.
In a prompt response to the comments on Thursday, the US State Department said the accusation was “wholly false”.
