The "scientists" in this article admit multiple times they don't know, yet they recommend specific counter measures! There will come a point (fast approaching) where this disease will have to be faced or we will have committed societal suicide.

The spike protein of COVID is no shit a protein. Like any protein after it is made it folds. Figuring out how protein fold is on the cutting edge of science.
The way I figure some mutations will of the spike protein will make it fold better and some worse. There is only so many variations of the protein that will be perfect (hit the sweet spot(. The rest will be further away in the curve until they become worthless (unable to dock).
When a virus floating in the plasma hit s cell wall, if it docks 97% of the time or 98% of the time per hit/contact does it really matter? It just plays bumper cars until the body flushes it or a phage destroys it.
Maybe how efficiently it can dock is not as important as residency in the tissue plus docking efficiency.
Just because they can measure mutations (and they are just beginning to map them all) and empirically measure contagion rates) does not mean they can marry the two up. Or marry that up with death rates. Their models and knowledge isn't just that good yet.
