Germany Extends Its Military Mission In Afghanistan Until January 2022

US News and World Report/Reuters: Germany Extends Military Mission in Afghanistan Into 2022

BERLIN (REUTERS) - Germany paved the way for its troops to stay in Afghanistan beyond an April 30 deadline that the United States last year agreed with the Taliban for the withdrawal of U.S. forces after nearly two decades of war.

Lawmakers approved late on Thursday a new mandate which allows the German military to keep up to 1,300 troops in Afghanistan as part of a NATO mission until Jan 31, 2022.

The current parliamentary mandate for the German operation expires at the end of March. The new U.S. government is still reviewing the 2020 agreement with the Taliban so it is not yet clear whether or for how long NATO troops will stay.

Almut Wielan-Karimi is delusional. She recognizes that the Taliban are the problem, but she cannot come out and forthrightly say that they need to be exterminated to the last man or there will be no peace. She talks like an academic. She brings up a lot of points that have to be resolved or compromised. Good for her. Point is you can resolve such points in a democratic fashion with people, who rule by the gun. She realizes it, but she won't say it. So academics and politicians can do their little dance.

Her points are necessary, but they are not sufficient. As such she is an unaffordable luxury.

Robert Müller recognizes there can be no peace with the Taliban. His mission, better yet the overall German mission, was and is all wrong. His mission was to clear mines. That is just sickening. It is revolting. If some component of the Bundeswehr is not aggressively patrolling and German intel is not hunting down Taliban faster than they can recruit, it does not matter how many bombs Müller disposes of. There will always be more. Fish rots form the head. The problem is with that fat slob of a harridan at top.
