Merkel’s Party Suffers A Major Defeat In 2 German State Elections

DW: Angela Merkel's CDU takes major hit in regional elections — initial projections

The Christian Democrats has lost ground in two crucial state elections in Germany, exit polls show.

The Greens have won the state of Baden-Württemberg again. Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) took a hit Sunday evening, with early results showing that recent scandals and the mishandling of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout potentially damaged the party in two vital state elections.

Elections in the German states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate were the first major political test ahead of the general election in September.

WNU Editor: This is a major defeat for Chancellor Angekla Markel and her party. As for the reasons why her party was defeated. It all comes down to how her government has responded to the pandemic.  Germany is now in its "third wave", and Germany's vaccine roll-out has been slow when compared to other countries like the U.S. and the U.K.. Bottom line. The general election is in September, and if these poll numbers hold, her governing coalition will be easily defeated in 6 months.

Merkel’s incompetent handling of refugees in 2015 should have retired her. Wuhan bungling is tougher to shrug off.
From an American perspective her triangulating between the Chinese, Russia and the USA is infuriating.

Good riddance.

I like to think the "green" energy silliness is a factor, also.

In no particular order

1) Green Energy & rolling blackouts

2) Rapefugee Crisis 1,000 sexual assaults in one night in Cologne. Did Merkel set a world record or what!

3) COVID Lockdowns and vaccine rollout

4) Both states have US bases. Maybe people, who are pro-American or just pro-base, did not bother to show up at the polls. Chancellor Parkinson's lackluster support for the German military in particular and the NATO alliance in general may not endear her to those voters.

Hard to see you business going to Poland. It would have under Trump. The local economies in those two states would have taken a hit. Puppet Bidone rolled it back, but he won't be in office long and Kamala cackles worse than Hillary.

I think some of those bases should be moved forward, but not all of them. Depth helps. Especially, sometimes when you are incompetent. Like right now. We have an incompetent CINC. Some reporter who has no relatives, should ask Joe Biden to to count from 10 to 1. It is a quick and easy brain function test.
