U.S. Democrats Say Forming Alliances To Deter China Is A Better Policy Than Increasing The Defense Budget

New York Times

The second hearing in as many days for the INDOPACOM commander turns toward alliance-building.

It’s a pipe dream to think the U.S. military will ultimately cow China, but a network of alliances might do the job, Democratic lawmakers said Wednesday.

“The idea that we can build a military large enough and strong enough to dominate China in the modern world is not realistic and is fraught with danger,” said Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash. “So I hope we can better understand how to make proper investments.”

WNU Editor: These Democrat lawmakers may not want to spend the money to boost the U.S. military to face China, but China is more than determined to spend what is necessary on their military to force the U.S. to submit to what they want.

And as for establishing a network of alliances to deter China.

For as long as I can remember America's allies in Asia have been talking with Washington to form such a defense bloc. But it has never gone forward because America's allies have always been reluctant to spend what is necessary to deter China. The expectation has always been that the U.S. will foot the bill for their defense .... an expense that these US lawmakers have made very clear is not on the table.

I agree completely. But the big problem with this strategy is the current US 'leadership'.

We have no energetic/dominant personality in government who will enforce this policy.

The Pentagon Can’t Spend China Into Submission, But Alliances Can Deter It, House Dems Say

The Democrats mouth a wise saying for false purposes. Asscrats are using that soundbite as cover to go butter over guns. Never mind that the butter in the end is a pittance and merely a trap for Dem control over people's lives. Democrats have been helping black people for 60 years and now black people need more help then ever. Democrats politicians and hangers on get rich helping the poor.

Allies can be fickle or they can bend you over and ram it u[p your ass. In World War 2 many countries switched sides depending on the balance of power. So right there is the Achilles heel, elbow, torso and head of the Demofuck argument.

Then there is Pakistan.

"Officials at the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad have alleged that Pakistan misspent some 70 percent of the U.S. funds that paid the Pakistani military to run missions in the unwieldy provinces along the Afghan border. U.S. officials accuse Pakistan of running a double game with the money, keeping the Taliban at bay just enough to persuade American benefactors to keep their wallets open, thereby ensuring a lifeline for the country's mangled economy. All of which raises the question: will any amount of money produce results?"

Too many in the US government like getting ass raped by Pakistanis.

"Documented military and civilian government deals with Taliban elements, like a 2004 agreement with Waziri militant leader Nek Mohammed, have confirmed that money intended to fight the Taliban is, in many cases, being used instead to pay them off. (Islamabad is currently battling Taliban fighters in Waziristan.) When the deals fall through, as rapidly shifting alliances in Pakistan's tribal regions often do, that money ultimately ends up funding the insurgency."

Don't forget all the Pakistani nationals, who were part of the military and caught with the Taliban.

Blinken cannot and will not get the job done. He will not pout in the effort. But he will project the image of consumate diplomat.

Obama gave up after 2010.

People can say whatever they want, but most of the American government does not want to win in Afghanistan. They do not believe they can, so they out it on the back burner and put it on simmer.

Trump never said he wanted to be in. Why should he? There was a 15 year track record before him and for the last 3rd of it the USG showed that it had no intention of winning. They had wanted to win, but after it didn't happen after 9 or 10 years and after it got harder, they gave up institutionally without admitting it publicly.

If Pakistan is a Chinese ally and a Road and Belt partner, why are we repairing their Mangla dam?

The graphic is incorrect on South Korea. They are playing both sides under their current leftist administration.

Why the Fuck not?

We do it for Germany.

Those Asians dudes are not stupid. They see how NATO allies play the US. They also saw when Trump called NATO on it all official Washington did was to dump in Trump. It was just one big hissy fit.

Someone help me out.

Malaysia is being hurt by China with its 9 Dashed line. So why is Malaysia a Chinese ally?

There is a lot of Chinese investment in Malaysia and probably some payoffs as well. Is that all it takes to grab mineral and fishing rights from a whole country?

Even the US cuts it's budhet short of defense spending, even if US is hit more than anybody else of pandemic, US cannot be put at submission by the chinese. But atleast if anybody want to put something clinging on our head about chinese strenghts, atleast it's anyone's choice atleast the chinese weee elated without starting any major conflicts yet. Again Chinese were so elated.
