Stars and Stripes: National Guard troops to receive ribbons for protecting nation’s capital
WASHINGTON — National Guard troops who deployed to the nation’s capital to provide security following the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol Building will be awarded local service ribbons, a defense official said Friday.
The District of Columbia National Guard plans to award at least one of two ribbons to all soldiers and airmen who supported the security mission before, during and after the 59th presidential inauguration in recognition of their service, Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Carver, the spokesman for the Virginia Air National Guard and the director of the Joint Task Force- District of Columbia’s Joint Information Center, said in a statement.

Time in Washington DC is still time away from family and civilian careers of these guardsmen.
Being deployed to DC and then Afghanistan will be almost as hard as 2 deployments to Afghanistan. It'll be easier to get back home for a long weekend and the internet connection will be better but that is about it. It'll still be the same wear and tear on their career the same resistance to forward motion. It might be worse actually.
People deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan for a year have in the past still got 2 weeks back home in the middle of their deployment. Still I suspect the guardsmen will get home every weekend if the live in the Northeast or once a month or quarter if they live elsewhere. So it is easier than Afghanistan and mostly less risky.
Major commands keep statistics on rapes, muggings, assaults, murders and other crimes committed against troops, while they are off base. It'll be interesting to see what happens in DC. Maybe a trooper will see something they are not suppose to and end up like Seth Rich? Or maybe it will happen jogging in a park, bar crawling or just going out to eat?
Being in the guard provides additional job experience and can provides synergies, but it also can be a drag on your civilian career.
I bet Putin and Xi when they watch news with tier aides are laughing their asses off when they see pictures of DC and razor wire.
Sad thing is is that the Democrats swear up and down it was an insurrection and non in e the capital building who was arrested in it had guns. Not one.

Reading news reports of weapons being dropped by ANTIFA on the streets of DC the day before is like seeing a bridge out and watching a train approach the location and seeing it in agonizing slow motion.
There is video of cops letting people in the Capital building letting "protesters" slip out a back window.
There are 4 Capital policemen for ever congress person. There is one policeman to escort congress people 24 hours a day in 8 hour shifts with one as a vacation replacement.
There a re 2,000 capital policemen plus they could call up the Washington DC metro police. That is more than enough for a crowd of 300 to 500 people.
