The Guardian: Australian defence minister says conflict over Taiwan involving China ‘should not be discounted’
Peter Dutton says Australia is focused on maintaining good relations with Beijing but China has been ‘very clear’ about its plans for reunification
The Australian defence minister, Peter Dutton, has said a conflict involving China over Taiwan cannot be discounted but he insists the government’s focus remains on having “good relations” with Beijing.
Dutton was on Sunday asked about the prospect of a “battle over Taiwan” following remarks from the former defence minister, Christopher Pyne, and the ex-prime minister, Tony Abbott, about China’s expansionist plans in the region.
“I don’t think it [conflict] should be discounted,” Dutton told ABC’s Insiders. “China has been very clear about the reunification and that’s been a long-held objective of theirs. They have been very clear about that goal.

Marise Payne tore up the BRI agreement with the state of Victoria last week, much to the disgust of China and the traitorous Victorian premier Daniel Andrews.
The leasing of the Port of Darwin should be next to go and then there is also the matter of Keswick Island just off Queensland's coast, which was bought by a Chinese developer who now deems it acceptable to lock Australians out of many areas.
It seems Australian politions have been making many sneaky backroom deals with the Chinese behind Australians backs.
It's disgusting.
The biggest problem with confronting China is that fact they have this notion that the Chinese people and the Chinese Government are two different entities.
While Minister talk of big game with Chinese Government they are undermining themselves with backroom deals with the Chinese people.
China has spidered itself into every aspect of life within Austrilia that they are not just going to walk away from all the Chinese money and while globally they take this stance against China, its not against the Chinese people who have enpowered the Government.
Ultimately i comes down to Chinese soft power and that little CCP puppet sitting on his shoulder, making him rich at the expense of a degrading world.
One more thing ill say is the Armenia conflict last year, if you wanted to know how the world would react to China invading Taiwan, then this conflict was the perfect example. Many places support the One China Policy, so really its just a matter of persuading enough inaction before they strike.
Taiwan issues will never be like any issues.
Even more disgusting they think we haven’t noticed.
