WNU Editor: The U.S. Air Force never really had air superiority against the Soviet Union on its borders. Any incursion into Soviet Air Space would have been a suicide mission. Ditto with Russia today.

The US overflew the Soviet Union for years. Lost only one aircraft doing so. We stopped not because we had to but the Intel from non-airbreathers was good enough to do so. The Soviets never tried it with us.

A German with a Cessna 172 landed in Red Square ...they tried but they didn’t get him either.
