Scores Killed On Friday In Myanmar Crackdown On Protesters

Reuters: Myanmar security forces with rifle grenades kill over 80 protesters - monitoring group

(Reuters) - Myanmar security forces fired rifle grenades at protesters in a town near Yangon on Friday, killing more than 80 people, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) monitoring group and a domestic news outlet said.

Details of the death toll in the town of Bago, 90 km (55 miles) northeast of Yangon, were not initially available because security forces piled up bodies in the Zeyar Muni pagoda compound and cordoned off the area, according to witnesses and domestic media outlets.

The AAPP and Myanmar Now news outlet said on Saturday that 82 people were killed during the protest against the Feb. 1 military coup in the country.

Firing started before dawn on Friday and continued into the afternoon, Myanmar Now said.

If the world is in such a state for several years to 2 decades watch for China to pick up Shan state. There are a lot of ethnic Chinese there.

- Gives them more land, people and resources.
- Give them more strategic depth
- Gets them closer to the Indian Ocean and with the bonus of not having to rely on allies
- Starts to flank possible enemies, India and Vietnam
- Gives them a pretext to start a war with India. If Burma crumbles and China and India rush in to pick up the pieces ...

Of course, when they pick up a chunk of territory, they'll look to round it out, so as to innocently want to have defensible borders for their shiny new acquisition such as a mountain range or river to deliminate it.
