I mean, the Taliban were able to retain control of areas when ISAF was at it's greatest strength. Every time ISAF has contracted, the Taliban have moved back in to areas they lost control of. After 20 years, ISAF has at best kept the Taliban out of some areas and they will simply move back in. The ANSF were inept, corrupt, often cowardly, and prone to desertion...they have been largely ineffective even with extensive material and financial support. I just don't see how the Taliban will not take whatever they want after this.
