US News and World Report/Reuters: Pentagon Chief Unable to Talk to Chinese Military Leaders Despite Repeated Attempts
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has so far been unable to speak with China's top general despite multiple attempts to set up talks, U.S. defense officials said on Friday.
Relations between China and the United States have grown increasingly tense, with the world's two largest economies clashing over everything from Taiwan and China's human rights record to its military activity in the South China Sea.
Despite the tensions and heated rhetoric, U.S. military officials have long sought to have open lines of communication with their Chinese counterparts to be able to mitigate potential flare-ups or deal with any accidents.

WNU Editor: This is not a good sign. Not a good sign at all. When the Chinese ghost someone like this they are sending the message that they no longer respect that person.

Do you blame the Chinese? Talking to Austin is like getting mental Greek Fire on you. The stupid, it burns.
The Chinese know a waterboy, when they see one.
If it makes you feel better, call Austin a "Yes Man". Same Dif.
The Chinese are ecstatic Austin is pulling stunts like this:
Pentagon Begins Purge Of Extremists From Ranks
It makes their job of become the lone super power easier.
Some people are self-made millionaires. Austin is a self-made idiot.
Austin might be beginning to realize what a grave mistake he has made, but he knows the train has pulled out of the station and there is no stopping the train. Red Guards can happen to America, too. Will the aggrandizement to the Austin family be worth it?
Sorry to contradict everybody but Austin is a great person. That said the point is not on the person, it is the behavior of PLA. Even you don't like the person (and it happens often) you talk anyway. Bilateral relation is more important than ego.
The PLA silence must have a "behind the curtain" important and that's scary.
Jac,
Please tell us how Austin is a great person?
1) Is it, because he is tall?
2) Is it, be because of his great girth?
3) Is it, because he is embarking the greatest of all racist witch hunts with his buddy Bishop Garrison?
4) Is it, because he was a great general in Iraq? The war such as it was, was won in 2007 by McCain's surge (Would the surge happen without McCain pushing it? IDK. But he did push it and it was the right thing to do), the ability of numerous soldiers in 2007 (general and corporals) and the Sunni Anbar tribes. After it was won, Austin came in on February 2008 and not fvck it up.
5) Is it because Austin joined the board of a defense contractor and they started coming in on time and on budget?
6) What is great about Austin?
Please tell.
All is see is IQ between 100 to 140, with a heft side of Democrat Party racial politics.
That makes him less than zero.
Napoleon loved generals like him ... on the other side.

Well, that's just a feeling. He looks decided and dedicated for action with some a sense of strategy. I can be wrong but that's enough for me. You can be right and that's okay with me as long as he is doing the right thing.
That said, even if I'm wrong on Austin, what worry most is the China PLA reaction. It's not rational. Why?
You can despise someone, but pay attention to them, because they have power.
Austin has power (nuclear arsenal for one). If the the Chinese ignore him, they think he will squander it. Some of the Chinese in leadership might be irredentist or supremacist, but they are not completely out to lunch.
There are a lot of asymmetries in war. It is obvious that outcomes can be in doubt. So this turkey, this pud, Austin is going to do his part in tearing apart social cohesion.
My family is multi-racial and I see the putz Austin doing the wrong thing. Austin is great. He is great in the evil, the does.
"The military relationship is strained, no question about that. It’s hard to know how much this is reflective of that strain as much as it is just Chinese intransigence,"
- U.S. defense official
The 'official' is delusional, a real whack job. There is an actual relationship? Do the Chinese view it as a relationship? Maybe we ought to define the word relationship, when speaking about nations.
"just Chinese intransigence"
Does the 'official' have an American-centric viewpoint? I don't blame him. I do too. It is natural. But you do not get to be called an 'official' and get paid the big bucks by such bigoted thinking. Or at least you shouldn't.
Can't the official' put himself or herself in Chinese shoes, the shoes of the Europeans or some 3rd party?
Maybe there is no relationship other than the Chinese want what they want and will take it, when they gage they have a favorable force correlation.
To me, the 'official' comes across as smug, bigoted, and delusional as fuck.
But he has a 'relationship' with someone who does not have a relationship with him.

The article one should we say "story" or "narrative" did not give a baseline. Usually when something is control charted you starts with 25 to 30 observations. Lunchpail, Waterboy and the "article" writers started with the one to handful of meeting from November 3rd to January 20th. Those motherfuckers must be super duper whip smart to use so few observations as a baseline.
