European Allies Ask U.S. To Slow Afghan Withdrawal To Avoid A Situation Where They Are The Last Ones Left Alone Behind

Wall Street Journal: European Allies Ask U.S. to Slow Afghan Withdrawal, Officials Say

Turkey says it may leave job of security at Kabul airport, adding to difficulties

WASHINGTON—European allies are pushing the U.S. to delay its withdrawal from Afghanistan—which U.S. officials had suggested could be complete by as early as July 4—to give NATO allies more time and support to leave, U.S. officials said.

In response, U.S. officials said that their departure could be delayed by two weeks or longer to accommodate the allies’ requests. President Biden last month ordered complete pullout by Sept. 11, although military officials have said they could complete the withdrawal by the summer.

In another complication, Turkey, which for years has secured the airport in Kabul, has told the U.S. and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that its troops may leave as well, the officials said.

Turkey’s potential departure, after it initially had planned to stay until after the coalition withdrawal, could prompt some Western nations to reconsider plans to keep embassies open in the capital without an international force at Hamid Karzai International Airport, officials said.

WNU Editor: It is clear that there is no coordination between the U.S. and its NATO allies in Afghanistan. The Americans are scrambling to get out of Afghanistan ASAP. The Europeans should do the same thing.

Remember under President Trump the media blared headlines against the US withdrawal, but now, where is the criticisms?
The Europeans fervently hoped for a Joe Biden win, all of them from Boris to Merkel. They got who they wanted and I hope they suffer the lot of fools everywhere, good and hard.

sorry. The media reported they did not blare out what they wanted. media does not do that except time to time in opinion articles, ie editorials. In fact, it was the Generals who said we ought not leave and THRUM TOOK ORDERS FROM THEM AND DID NOT WITHDRAW. The MILITARY also told Biden we need to stay. Biden told them he was commander in chief and we are leaving. Now if you think that history is wrong, show me in print where it is wrong. Now start your name-calling, begin with a favorite: "liar."

What do you think this is besides criticism of the withdrawal? This blog and the media at large are going to be forecasting a bloodbath for months to come.

the media presents the news. period.
Blame Biden for the withdrawal but it was ok when Trump said he wanted it?
questions: who is the legal president of this nation (the U.S.)?
and: do you favor a withdrawal of American troops or do you favor leaving many there¿ and for how long and how many?
two simple questions for comments on this issue

Biden flip flopped.

Trump did not. Trump was consistent since he put his hat in the ring for presidency.

Biden put his signature on the documents put forth before him by his handlers. Support for the war is no longer beneficial for Biden's handlers. Support for the war was good to beat up their political opponents, but now things shave changed. They won office and they do not want to spend money on the war. They want to spend money buying political constituencies and lining their pockets.

It is much faster getting rich with a social program than getting yourself on the board of a defense contractor. So money to unions is infrastructure. True or not, it does fill the pockets of the union leaders and their political cronies.

There media talking about a blood bath and there is media blaming a president for the bloodbath. President Trump was blamed by the media for a hasty retreat and for not coordinating with our European allies. CBS and WSJ journal aren’t blaming Biden by name for our Europeans being out of the loop, CBS isn’t blaming Biden for the expected bloodbath.

US generals leaked to the eager anti Trump press their concerns about Trumps handling of his Afghanistan withdrawal. Joe Biden gets no such accusations from the generals.

This is how the media manipulates the news.

Trump said we would leave. His generals said not to. He did not withdraw. He failed. Biden said we withdraw. He then told generals I run things. Trump a pussy.
read the history of the thing instead of making up stories, including Trump won the election

I do not remember electing the Pentagon generals to decide foreign or domestic policy. Trump was elected not Mattis, Milley, or Austin.

Trump withdrawing from Afghanistan is not quitting a war that Congress authorized, So Trump did nothing wrong. In fact he did something right. Withdrawing from Afghanistan makes as much sense as the Allies seriously contemplating withdrawing from Omaha Beach during D Day. They considered it. If they had more casualties, they would have. In military conflict you feed success not failure.

Congress passed a nebulous AUMF. They do not bother to update with transnational terror groups or transnational criminal syndicates. Leaving Afghanistan allows the US to preserve US soldier's lives, conserve fiscal resources, and focus on other facets on GWOT like Somalia, Mozambique, Mali and elsewhere. All Afghanistan was a sinkhole for American blood and treasure. We had not won in 20 years. What makes you think we could win in another 20 years?

If Trump did not get his withdrawals done, it was because of foot dragging and lies by unelected generals and state department officers. That is dereliction of duty. It is a capital offence.

Anon (7;50),

Well said. There's not much to add. With that said the Soviet Union couldn't win in Afghanistan. As such, it would've been beyond the height of hubris to think we could have.
