EUObserver: Macron: EU sanctions on Russia do not work
The EU needs a new strategy on Russia because sanctions alone have not changed its behaviour, French president Emmanuel Macron has said.
"With Russia, the policy of progressive sanctions on frozen situations is no longer an effective policy," Macron told press after an EU summit in Brussels on Tuesday (26 May).
"I think that we are at a moment of truth in our relationship with Russia, which should lead us to rethink the ... tension that we decide to put in place," he said.
Reacting to press questions on EU sanctions over Russia's jailing and attempted murder of opposition figure Alexei Navalny, Macron added: "What would you like us to do? Do we start an armed conflict? Do we completely cut off relations? Do we go further with sanctions - but where to?," he added.
He did not say sanctions should be dropped.
But he said EU leaders had tasked the European Commission to draft more creative options on Russia relations in a report due in June.

WNU Editor: For the past 2 months my family in Russia are telling me that every business sector is now booming. I am also reading that the Kremlin is having budget surpluses with currency reserves at a record high. Their stats are also showing full employment.
So yeah.
EU sanctions on Russia are not working.

I figured this one out a long time ago. Mr. Macron is finally catching on. Sanctions aren't working. To this I say, "DUH!!" Not only are they not working but they aren't going to work. Had my advice been sought which it was not I would have informed our leadership class that it wouldn't work. In fact, I wrote them letters to this effect.
This analysis does NOT mean I am Russian or pro-Russian. It simply means I understand reality in this instance and would appreciate it if our leaders act in such a manner. Part of the trouble with people who aren't held to account is they sometimes tend to act in ways that they wish reality is as opposed to how it really is. When in a hole, the first thing to do is STOP DIGGING!!
we are led by fools
Caecus,
Indeed we are!! One definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Our leadership seems to have this one mastered!!
Sanction have to be like military operations short and sharp. Gradualism does not work. Rolling Thunder was gradual, incremental. Linebacker was short and sharp. Took a lot of casualties, but so did they and they ran out of missiles and were defenseless. If you are incremental or gradual, you give your enemies time to adapt.
The sanctions were never comprehensive. Many of the sanctions are against individuals, which circa 2014/2015 seemed like the way to go. Make your point, hopefully hurt them, but not the population. Those individual sanctions appear to be useless.
Congress wanted the sanctions. Congress got the sanctions. Congress is not living by the results of the sanctions. If there are sanctions, then there should be a metric to judge Congress by.
The sanctions were not serious. Serious sanctions would have halted oil and gas sales immediately or some point in the future when a contract was not renewed.
The Russians have halted oil and gas shipments to Ukraine. If they did it there, at a later date they can and may do it to Europe. If Russia is willing to that, why are not the ballerinas, Macron and Merkel, willing to abstain from buying Russian gas? They are not serious.
Joe is not serious. Okay, he is seriously on the take, but he is not serious about Nordstream.
Cut off Russian internet www. Might help u fools
