The old saying “a day at the beach,” is meant to evoke a non-stressful, relaxing day involving projects or tasks that are easy or otherwise non-challenging. That wasn’t exactly the day at the beach that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) experienced earlier this month and involved armored units from the 73rd Group Army.
Believed to be China’s main invasion force in a presumed attack on Taiwan, members of the armored division reportedly fired several thousand rounds or ordnance during the drills, which were conducted on May 12, according to reports from state broadcaster CCTV. The unit is stationed in Xiamen in Fujian province and conducted the combat training off Dongshan County in the Taiwan Strait.

WNU Editor: China has ramped-up its military exercises. But they still have a long way to go before they have the capability to launch a successful invasion of Taiwan.

The primary source for reaching the conclusion that China lacks the capability to mount an invasion of Taiwan is a a 2019 DoD report. As such a report would have relied heavily on US (un)intelligence services to compile, confidence is not inspired. US (un)intelligence should not be relied on as a primary source. Perhaps as corroboration for more reliable sources they may have some utility.
As for Taiwan, are they even a serious country? I'm starting to wonder.
China invasion could be a 2nd waive after a "decapitation" of the Taiwan government. In this case China doesn't need a strong force for doing it.

Given the track record of US Intelligence services, I do not consider them a reliable source. Their failures are well documented. Any analysis that relies on them as a primary source as this one does is a cause for concern. To rely on them as a primary source the way this analysis does is the mark of an unserious person on my considered opinion.
Is Taiwan a serious country? They haven't even taken the most basic step that a country in their position should which is to develop a robust nuclear deterrent. They are very tech savvy so there's no issues with regards to having or finding the proper expertise.
It is China's position that Taiwan is a breakaway province that will be reunited with China one way or the other. The Taiwanese leadership won't take even the most basic of steps with regards to their military readiness such as developing a nuclear deterrent and making a fully focused and concerted effort towards developing fully domestic military systems.
Perhaps they've concluded they are going to be reunited with China someday and their current posture is to try and position themselves for the best possible seal when the inevitable does happen. As for their relationship with America, try and siphon as much offvif us as possible in the interim period. Si, yes, I'm beginnig to wonder if Taiwan is ActuallyI a serious country.
