NBC: 'Taking away our family': Latin America Covid deaths near one million
"The truth is, I don't have any more tears," says a Peruvian architect, 28, who has lost 13 relatives to Covid-19.
The pandemic is "taking away our dreams, our tranquility and stability." Hellen Ñañez has suffered enough tragedy for a lifetime.
The Peruvian 28-year-old mother has mourned the death of 13 close relatives since the pandemic struck last year: uncles, cousins, a grandfather.
Now her dad is fighting for his life. On a recent day in a dusty cemetery in the Pacific port town of Pisco, Ñañez visited the graves of relatives lost to COVID-19. "The truth is, I don't have any more tears," said Ñañez, who dropped out of studying psychology to work and help pay her father's medical bills.
"This is taking away our family. It's taking away our dreams, our tranquility and stability."

in America, about 3,000,000 people, give or take, die every year from all causes. That is .009 percent. using Americas death rate against the estimated 670,000,000 million people in Latin America, a very obese populace, they would lose about 5,600,000 people a year, all causes anyways. I get it, that this novel cold virus is deadlier than most but the deaths rates are not existential in any way shape or form. Not enough to justify the mass psychosis of debilitating fear and the whole sale loss of liberties.

I am not debilitated. I am not at a loss of liberty. I am just glad we had a real man in charge of the pandemic instead of the guy who said it is no big deal. it is gone when it wasn't, who said drink some cat's piss or something and you will be ok

Fully-vaccinated Americans can return to life without masks, CDC says

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has amended its guidance for fully vaccinated Americans, no longer recommending masks indoors or outdoors, including in crowds, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky announced at a White House briefing Thursday.
"If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic," Walensky said, announcing the sweeping change. "Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing."
The new recommendation, which carves out exceptions for buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters, will have significant implications for schools and businesses as the country begins to reopen.
"We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy," Walensky said.
A majority of likely voters in all ten key states support the American Rescue Plan, and largely credit President Biden and congressional Democrats for passing its popular provisions.
The American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan both enjoy net positive support in all ten states — including when likely voters are told that these plans will be paid for by raising taxes on corporations and the wealthy.
All the tested provisions of the American Jobs Plan and American Families Plan are backed by majorities of likely voters in all these states — including from overwhelming numbers of self-identifying Democrats, majorities of Independents, and generally a third of Republicans.
Investment in home- and community-based care for seniors and people with disabilities is one of the key drivers of support for the American Jobs Plan — along with upgrading physical infrastructure and replacing lead pipes.
Paid family and medical leave is the most popular component of the American Families Plan — with at minimum 65 percent support across the ten states polled.
A majority of likely voters across all ten states support expanding the use of clean energy, including by modernizing the electric grid.
Bipartisan majorities overwhelmingly view investments in jobs in caregiving, childcare, or long-term care for seniors and people with disabilities as a driver of economic growth, as they allow other family members to enter the workforce.
