U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley Says Peace With Russia, China ‘Fraying At The Edge’

Defense One: Peace with Russia, China ‘Fraying at the Edge,’ Milley Tells Graduating Cadets

New Air Force officers should work “to set the conditions for a future that prevents great power war,” Joint Chiefs chairman says.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Air Force Academy class of 2021 is graduating into a security environment where the relative peace the United States has held with Russia and China is “fraying at the edge,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley told graduating seniors Wednesday.

That peace “is under stress,” Milley said. “We would be wise to lift our gaze from the never-ending urgency of the present to set the conditions for a future that prevents great power war.” “You can expect to be at the edge many, many times, to make hard choices with imperfect information,” the Army general told the Air Force’s newest officers.

“You will have to keep your guard up against the enduring nature of evolving security challenges.”

Time to consider, if Trump was head and shoulders more intelligent than Milley. Is Putin as bad as Stalin? I don't think so. Feel free to make a case. We allied with Stalin in WW2. Do we really want to go at China alone or against China and Russia?

Milley is a dumb bitch.

Good questions. It certainly would be helpful to have allies if we must go against China. Going at is as we are our chances of prevailing are 50/50 at best, probably less. We did ally with Stalin and, in that situation, the threat to us from Nazi Germany was significantly less than that posed by either China or Russia of today. Trying to go against China and Russia both is even more problematic than just going against China. As it is now, if we go against one, we are likely going against both and their allies.

Some commentators have suggested that Russia and China have significant differences and much in common with us. If this is so, perhaps some type of cooperation with Russia is possible.

Is Putin as bad as Stalin? I would tend to agree with your assessment that he is not. As for some US leaders, if they ever were able to obtain the power that Stalin had, lets just say I'm not so sure. Theoretically our Constitutional Republic has checks and balances that are supposed to prevent something like this from happening. Perhaps it is a weird blessing that many in our leadership class really are very, very stupid. As for Miley, while I might not use the term you used to describe him, I would agree he is lacing and is part of the problem.

It also seems clear that any type of meaningful cooperation with Russia is going to be problematic at best as long as our leadership class continues to needlessly provoke them. If the leader of Ukraine really was "read the riot act" as the editor suggested awhile back then perhaps things are moving in the right direction behind the scenes.

If used well geography would be the US's best ally.

This is true about US geography. Unfortunately at this point all available seems to me at least that is emphatically not being used correctly. Our security at all entry points be they the land borders, the ports, and airports are a complete joke. If someone really wanted to invade us and it appears many, many do, they could have easily moved in all the necessary assets and personnel many times over long, long ago.

Imposter never saw a Debt as a % of GDP graphed until today. Like it is believable that it is true of a spreadsheet jockey. And yet here they are trolling away as an armchair Quisling.

There's that syntax again. It is bad manners to interrupt someone making a fool out of themselves, so I won't.

Anon (3:59),

For what its worth, I have not seen it graphed in quite this way. I have seen other graphs of this but not in quite this way.

In choosing to insult me with the "Imposter" slur you are taking the focus off of the editor's post. You continue with this obvious slur towards me even though I have made it very easy for you to contact me to verify that all the claims I make here about myself are true yet to date you have not done so. Perhaps you are simply to lazy or there may be other factors.

While I do use spreadsheets as Income Tax Accountant, I don't use them to graph in this manner. I use them primarily to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages for large amounts of numbers. Essentially I have seen debt as a % of GDP graphed but not quite in this manner.

Even though this isn't the right thread for that post, the graph was very useful!! Perhaps you should focus more on the topics at hand as posted by the editor instead of trolling. You might even learn something.

Anon (4:00),

I entirely agree and probably should not have interrupted 3:59PM. Unfortunately having to correct lies about me is tiresome. Perhaps he/she needs to slander me because they have nothing useful to contribute and must somehow try and remain relevant.

Comrades!
Pay attention to this smart man named Poster. He wisely knows that he should be friends with comrade Putin, a friend of the United States, since Russia was an ally in the fight against fascism in World War II. Now the leaders of both nations need to lend a hand of friendship and shake brotherhood.

Sometimes my syntax is off. As I have explained, my eyesight is poor and I am generally very busy. If clarification is needed on any point, I will be happy to provide time permitting. It's also very easy for anyone to contact me outside of this website as well.

Very respectfully please read the post. Reread if you need to get the full understanding. You will notice I did not say what you suggest I did. My comment is actually similar to 2:59 but with additional analysis. There is nothing of material difference in the points made. Nowhere do I suggest anything a brotherhood. What I suggest is meaningful cooperation. People who work together to solve common challenges often do this but it is not necessarily a brotherhood. For non family members, that type of relationship is earned and generally does not happen quickly.

For what its worth, many who actually know me and have taken the time to analyze what I say and write have suggested that I am very smart. I certainly would not classify myself as a dummy.:-)

Anon (4:39PM),

Insults such as this are not helpful and do not contribute positively to the discussion. If I am trolling and if I suck at anything, please elaborate on the flaws in the points made. After all I don't pretend to have all of the answers. I generally try to adhere to the philosophy of never being afraid to challenge my assumptions. If we don't do this, they will eventually challenge us!! I've had to change course a number of times!!

Independent on who bposter is (I called him comrade before, just like you), but he has a point. The biggest benefactor of division between USA and Russia is China. And who is more aligned with China than Democrats(China Biden)who constantly called for Russia hysteria over 3 years, claimed on thousands of interviews they had evidence then they had none.

China and Democrats/ left leaning organisations get your money, get to tell you what to say and think. And you want to fight and vilify Russia? You must be a Democrat. That's like the litmus test for you guys.

I'm pleased to see we can find areas of agreement. "Independent on who bposter is..." I've already told you exactly who I am and how to contact me numerous times on this website. To date, neither you or anyone else here has made the effort to do so. Essentially, if you have been here any length of time, you already know who I am and can find out pretty much anything about me you wish.

Part of the problem with "anonymous" is it is often hard to tell just who I am addressing. If you missed it, I am happy to provide with the necessary information to verify who B.Poster is. Please understand family duties are calling and my time will be limited for awhile.

As to the term comrade, this is generally used to mean a socialist or communist. If you take the time to read my posts, you will know this is not the case. I abhor socialism and communism. I would be best described as a small government conservative probably leaning libertarian in many ways, definitely not a communist or socialist.

"but he has a point..." from here on I really find no area of material disagreement. Unfortunately there seems to be little difference between Democrats and Republicans on this. Perhaps the best term for Republicans is "Democrat-Lite." The onerous results are still the same in the end even if it does take a bit longer to get their under Republican leadership. Suffice it to say needless provocation of Russia accomplishes nothing constructive and causes much harm.
