Defense News: US Army’s FY22 budget backs modernization, cuts ‘down into bone’ of legacy fleet
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army is taking a hit in the president’s fiscal 2022 defense budget request compared to the other military services, but the land force continues to staunchly guard its ongoing modernization efforts intended to provide overmatch against adversaries like China and Russia by 2035, according to documents released May 28.
The Army’s budget request of $173 billion for FY22 represents a $5 billion reduction compared to last year’s request of $178 billion.
Congress enacted $176.6 billion in FY21. Different this year is the lack of wartime funding — also known as the overseas contingency operations account — that, for the first time since it was created, is rolled into the base budget.
The OCO account is now referred to as direct and enduring contingency costs. That was reduced by $5 billion from FY21, Army comptroller Lt. Gen. Thomas Horlander told a small group of reporters.

More money for welfare fail generals.
Yep!! Poor Jimmy Mattis thankfully he's retired and hopefully never to be heard from again just couldn't be distracted while ANTIFA and BLM looted and ransacked whole sections of US major cities. Available evidence strongly suggests the active crop of generals aren't any brighter.
We are on the same line of before WWII: completely unprepared because "domestic's concern". Hope we will be able to catch up the same way....but the world is so much completely different, nothing is sure.

Comrade B Poster (The Boring)
you must not be so clear that you are working for us, because spoiling the entire American army before America honors its war dead is not the smart thing you do. The military leaders you think are no good were the same as those under Trump, and therefore you sound very silly in your words. You gotta do better or ... well, you know that

If you were paying attention, you would know my goal is to make things better. A purge of the current leadership crop has the potential to do just that. The current leadership class is indeed spoiling things.
When ANTIFA and BLM were running rampant bringing about wholesale destruction while moving about with military like precision little Jimmy Mattis referred to them as "a few law breakers" and he just couldn't be "distracted." Unfortunately his attitude is comparable to that of much of the leadership class. Either little Jimmy has a fundamental misunderstanding of the situation on the ground or he lies. Either way not good.
I may seem boring to you. My analysis are detailed and well thought put. For those unwilling to take the time or think things through this will likeky be the case. A serious analysis will seem boring.
By the way I wasn't aware that asking questions of a leadership class who make decisions often without accountability that affect the lives of my loved ones is trashing the military. I wasn't aware that little Jimmy became a cult leader that we can't question. Perhaps in you're mind this is the case. For most Americans I'd say such things aren't trashing the military but are patriotic. Perhaps he's a good man even though he is no Sun Tzu.
Jac,
You've pretty much nailed it, however, the domestic concerns are important and unless properly addressed the foreign ones can't be readily addressed. In my considered opinion, fundamental changes to our foreign policy are needed.
Part of the problem during the Trump Administration was incompetent leadership at all government levels including the military with no real way or will to remove them from their positions.

Comrade!
no no. Are you wrong to say that there were incompetent military leaders in America under Trump, and that was bad, and why can't it be said on the comments page? Trump was the commander in chief and could get rid of these bad leaders in the military, which is his legal right in America! so what you say to us makes Trump look like a mannequin and we don't want his photo
Are you even American? If so, have you dealt with our government on a regular basis. If so, you would know how difficult it is to fire a government employee especially one in a leadership position.
Trump should have done more to try and purge some of these people. Not doing do was a major error on his part. For what it's worth, he was not my first choice for POTUS.
"Why can't it be said on the comments page?" As far as I can tell, pretty much anything goes here. The editor doesn't seem to police this.
Ah, Mr. Clever!
