U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Says The Taliban Could Overrun The Afghan Government By The End Of The Year

The Hill: McConnell: Taliban could take over Afghanistan by 'the end of the year'

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday predicted that the Taliban could overrun the Afghan government by the end of the year as U.S. troops withdraw.

“I think there's a high likelihood that the Taliban will be back in control of the country, maybe as early as the end of the year,” McConnell told reporters in Kentucky.

McConnell has previously bashed President Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan as a “grave mistake” that will “leave coalition partners and vulnerable Afghans high and dry,” but his comments Thursday put a specific marker on the dire predictions.

He is probably right. But then what is his point? Biden should not withdraw American forces but it was ok when Trump said we would withdraw?

Does he want us to stay? if so, say so.

All the Biden backers and Biden were against Trump withdrawing. Now Biden is withdrawing and it is okay among the mavens of schmart?

Biden flip flopped. Trump did not.

Personally I hate leaving. We paid in blood and we will be leaving some good Afghans. There was no p-0lan to win after Obama half assed the surge the generals recommended. Additionally the 800 pound gorilla in the room was never addressed. That would be Pakistan. We either doubled down until Pakistan folded or take Pakistan to task. We did neither. Therefore, there was no strategy to win, but simply hang on.

*** If the US went head to head with China and Pakistan joined China, how would we supply or troops of get them out of there?

Being out of supply at some point removes the units.

*** Would US troops exfiltrate north through Russia?

Is that possible after Democrats cried Russia, Russia, Russia until the bovines came home?

*** Would US troops attack through Pakistan to reach the coast to exfiltrate?

Maybe another option wp0uld be to hit Pakistan from one side while India hits from the other.

You are a most excellent arm chair general 112:15. What are your thought?

He is right. The corrupt Afghani government will collapse like a rotten deck of cards the moment the US/Nato withdraws.

The US lacks the will to use the proven Chinese solution to the problem of Islamic fundamentalism. Probably its the only solution that will work.

China is doing that to people living in China
you refer to the US doing that in Afghanistan, not our country...we did that to native Americans and called that living on reservations, ie concentration camps. There they were to lose native ways, ie, dress, gods, culture, language, and become more like those who conquered them

There was more room and freedom on a reservation than in the Uighur re-education/slave labor camp.

In the early 20th century there were many Indian millionaires.

Indians, who stayed home in Siberia were conquered by the Russians. How many of them have become oil millionaires,

Read "Killers of the Flower Moon". There are more than a few despicable people recounted in the pages of the book, but on the flip side look at what the Indians achieved and what other continent/country could they have achieved it?

So you're a Chinese shill.

Frankly the problem of Islamic fundamentalism, if not confronted, and a solution found, will/may ultimately end western civilization. The Chinese have come up with a solution, but the issue is, it is severely repressive. But apparently it works. It is the only issue where I agree with the CCP.
