* Senator Mitt Romney was booed on Saturday as he made a speech at the Utah Republican Party's organizing convention
* The 2,000-strong crowd jeered after Romney, a frequent critic of former President Trump suggested that he wasn't a fan of Trump's 'character issues'
* The motion for Romney to be censured narrowly failed, 798 to 711, in a vote by delegates to the state GOP convention
* Romney has faced negative backlash and a censure threat by the GOP delegation for his votes to impeach Donald Trump earlier this year
* Romney was one of seven GOP senators who voted to convict Trump for inciting the deadly riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6
* The Senate ultimately voted 57-43 to acquit the former president, failing to meet the 67-vote threshold to convict - Romney is not facing re-election in 2022
* He was the only Republican lawmaker to support both of Trump's impeachments
More than two thousand Utah Republicans booed Senator Mitt Romney as he arrived to speak at a convention in his home state on Saturday.
The vocal backlash came after Romney narrowly avoided censure by the Utah GOP over his votes during the two impeachment trials of President Donald Trump.
'Aren't you embarrassed?' said Romney in response to the catcalling as he walked onto the stage.

WNU Editor: Senator Mitt Romney and his supporters maintain a very "tight leash" on the Republican Party in Utah. That is why I think this hostile response to his appearance must have come as a surprise to him and his supporters.
Being jeered at and insulted in airports and on planes is one thing .... Trump supporters confront Mitt Romney at airport, on plane: videos (FOX News). But being jeered and yelled at by delegates that you have a control on who becomes a delegate is another thing.
I am not surprised by this negative reaction. Senator Romney through his votes and speeches has made it very clear that he does not care much about what the Republican base wants.
And why should he.
His Mormon base will support him regardless on what he does.
For those who may not know. Mormons make up 67% of Utah's population (see Mormon population by State).
But if this weekend's Utah Republican convention is any indication. The control he has over the party and its supporters in Utah is starting to fray.

I live in Utah and am not Mormon but Republican. His base is fraying quickly. And the Mormons I know and live next to all want Mitt out of office. I would be greatly surprised if he wins the nomination again.
