Covid-19 Variant Cases Exploding In Russia

The Russian capital recorded 7,704 new infections on Sunday, the most in a single day since December 24. The daily figures have remained high this week, with 6,195 cases recorded on Thursday 

 

Daily Mail: Moscow mayor says new Covid variants are more aggressive and spreading faster in the city as he orders increase in hospital beds amid 'rapidly deteriorating' situation 

* Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin warned the new variants of Covid-19 are harder to recover from and more infectious 

* He warned Covid-19 cases would be more than 9,000 on Friday, which would be the highest figure recorded in Moscow since the pandemic began 

* Several new strains are now circulating the city, which are up to 58 per cent more resistant to the country's main vaccine Sputnik V 

Moscow is facing new coronavirus variants which are more aggressive and spreading faster in the city, causing a rapidly deteriorating situation in the Russian capital, its mayor said on Thursday. 

Mayor Sergei Sobyanin warned the new mutations of the virus are also harder to recover from and more infectious as he ordered an increase in hospital beds amid the concerning rise in Covid-19 cases.

'It's likely we are facing new, more aggressive variants which spread more quickly,' said Mr Sobyanin said on Thursday during a video conference with government officials battling the pandemic.

WNU Editor: My relatives in Moscow are telling me that the mood in the city is subdued. Many businesses have sent their employees home, and the expectation is that in the coming days the entire city will be completely closed down. 

Another worrisome sign is that the vaccines are not effective as advertised. What also does not help is that most Russians are avoiding being vaccinated.
