President Biden Torpedoes Ukraine's Hope To Quickly Join NATO

Daily Mail: Biden says Ukraine 'needs to clean up corruption' if it wants to become a member of NATO - after President Zelensky said they had been accepted

* President Biden addressed Ukraine membership of NATO ahead of his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday

* He said Kyiv had to meet certain criteria, including tackling corruption, before starting joining process

* 'The fact is they still have to clean up corruption,' he said * Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was worried his country will be left in uncertain position after Biden-Putin meeting

* On Monday he triggered confusion when he tweeted that Ukraine will become a member

* In fact, NATO statement reaffirmed a 2008 decision about the process for Ukraine to join the alliance

President Joe Biden on Monday said Ukraine must clean up corruption and meet other criteria if it wanted to join NATO.

Ukraine's president has said he is worried this week's U.S.-Russia summit will leave his country in an uncertain position and has been pushing for clear backing on its push for NATO membership.

After meeting allies in Brussels, Biden signaled he was open to the idea and that Russia's annexation of Crimea did not mean Kyiv would be barred.

WNU Editor: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky demanded an answer .... Zelenskiy to Biden: give us clear 'yes' or 'no' on Ukraine NATO path (Reuters). And as predicted by this blog, the answer is no!

Ukraine President Zelensky should focus more on ending the war in the eastern part of his country instead of putting all of his energies on joining NATO. As I said last month ....

.... As long as Kiev refuses to meet the demands of the Russian-Ukrainian majority in the eastern part of the country for autonomy and control of their culture and language, the country will always be divided, and be a pawn between both Russia and the U.S..

Now we know the result of his NATO efforts. And if anyone paid any attention the answer was never in doubt. It was DOA.

The fun part of President Biden's remarks that Ukraine "needs to clean up corruption" is that most Ukrainians regard the Biden family as part of the problem when it comes to corruption in Ukraine.

"Ukraine's relationship with NATO is governed by the NATO–Ukraine Action Plan, adopted on 22 November 2002.[12][13] In April 2005, Ukraine entered into Intensified Dialogue with NATO,[14] and during the 2008 Bucharest summit NATO declared that Ukraine could become a member of NATO when it wants to join and meets the criteria for accession.[15] However, by 2010 Ukraine had announced that it no longer had NATO membership as a goal under the foreign policy of new President Viktor Yanukovych.[16][17] Following months of Euromaidan street protests that began because of his refusal to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union in favor of deals from Russia, President Yanukovych was overthrown. In response to Russian involvement in eastern Ukraine and the alleged deployment of Russian troops on Ukrainian soil, the Ukrainian Prime Minister Yatsenyuk announced his intentions to resume the bid for NATO integration in August 2014,[18] and in December 2014, Ukraine's parliament voted to drop non-aligned status that was passed in 2010."

As long as Russia can keep Ukraine bogged down in a grey war, Ukraine will never meet the criteria.

Funny how Ukrain got bogged down during The Messiah's 2nd term.

Amazing how much Kerry-izing (dialoguing) goes on. With a face like that you would have to have an excuse to exercise those jaw muscles. They have been dialoguing. palavering, Kerry-izing and drooling for 2 decades now.

Ukraine is better off with Russia not because Russia is good, but because they will actually do something besides talk them to death.

Okay the Biden's do more than talk, but hey a crime family has to make a living.

The World Bank, IMF, US, and Europe has been helping developing countries in Africa, since the 60s or almost 6 decades. Which one is developed or OK? Diplomats and others in the Beltway have spilled a lot of words about Africa too. Lot of dialoguing there. Someone should get a mop.

Putin ad Biden working hand in hand. Bad cop Good cop routine. Both are grifters

I think this is definitely the right move. Making Ukraine part of NATO would be a terrible move in my opinion. It would be a dangerous act against Russia, who I e always thought we should be making strides to have better relations with. Our existential threat enemy is 100% percent China. Russia is far from perfect under it's current leadership bit we have so much more on common with the Russian people and culture than China.

"Russia is far from perfect under it's current leadership"

Same could be said of the US. Elections were stolen. Ever 2 or 3 weeks come with a series of gut punches with American citizens on the receiving end.
