Politico: ‘Complete disaster’: Inside the Biden team’s chaotic bid to evacuate Afghan interpreters
The Biden administration has expedited the process for a number of applicants who are in the final stages, but thousands are left waiting for answers.
President Joe Biden had just announced plans to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan in April when, during a classified briefing with top national security officials on Capitol Hill, one lawmaker stood up and asked a pointed question.
What was the Biden administration’s plan to evacuate the thousands of Afghan nationals who aided the U.S. war effort, and expedite their visas? Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin didn’t have an answer.
“We’ll get back to you on that,” Austin said, according to two people in the room and a defense official familiar with the interaction.

Obama gave up on Afghanistan during or immediately after 2010. He put it on simmer.
I have a suspicion that the Bush administration gave up in 2007 or 2008. Maybe give up is not justified in alleging or maybe worked choice makes no difference. They never pushed the Pakistanis hard enough. The Bush administration did not push hard enough on Swat. Did not deliver night letters. Allowed the Pakistanis to cut supply lines. Played the stupid drone game with the Pakistanis where they allowed it in private and condemned it in public.
The IG may be off base IMHO. Someone wrote in the last 10 days how can you win in Afghanistan when they have 7 children per women? With that type of birthrate you can suffer a high death rate and still prevail. After 20 years the original jihadis had 3 or 4 sons to replace them.

Trump in charge for 4 years. Said hewould withdraw our troops and leave. Did not. Biden did. Now it is wrong policy but it was right under Trump?
Trump withdrew troops, was withdrawing more. Generals disobeyed a direct order.
