Russian New ‘Checkmate’ Stealth Fighter Will Cost $30 Million Apiece

Defense World: Russian ‘Checkmate’ Stealth Fighter has Launch Customer, to Cost $30 Million Apiece 

Russian ‘Checkmate’ Single Engine Light Stealth Fighter (LTS) that was unveiled today already has a launch customer and was looking to expand the customer base to India, other Asian countries and those in Africa. 

 The aircraft had been developed for the international customer, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said. 

He did not elaborate on who the foreign was and the nature the order. LTS ‘Checkmate’ Fighter Jet is expected to Cost $25-$30 million Apiece, said Rostec head Sergei Chemezov.

WNU Editor: At this price there will definitely be a market for this fighter jet. It may not have the avionics of the F-35, but everything else is there. 

But of course all of this is contingent on many factors. Being successful in its first launch. No production hiccups or delays. No software problems. Just to name a few.

An uncanny size and resemblance to an F-5. And appears to be much lighter than the F-35.

Russia is looking to produce 300 of them over 15 years. 20 per year. Not exactly a world beater.

I'll predict that Africa will be their primary market.

I could be wrong but it's always interesting to me how much Russia can do with a much more limited military budget than the US.

Yeah that's a good point. Sorta like the million dollar, zero g, pressurized gas pen that NASA developed. Russia used a grease pencil.
