South Korea President To Skip Olympics After Crude ‘Masturbating’ Remark By Japanese Diplomat

Washington Post: South Korea's Moon scraps Olympic visit after diplomat's 'unacceptable' remark

TOKYO —South Korean President Moon Jae-in has scrapped a planned visit to Tokyo for the Olympics and to meet Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, his office said on Monday, shortly after lodging a protest over "unacceptable" remarks by a Japanese diplomat.

South Korea had objected to a news report Friday that said a senior diplomat at Japan’s embassy in Seoul had described Moon’s efforts to use the Olympics to improve relations between the two countries as “masturbating.”

“President Moon has decided not to visit Japan,” Park Soo-hyun, Moon’s press secretary, told a news conference, adding that the two sides had been exploring ways to tackle rows over history and boost cooperation but did not reach agreement.

Senior diplomat told who? 1 person? 2? 10? A roomful?

If it was said in the Japanese embassy in a closed room to 1 person, I would suspect someone is trying to get someone's job or as revenge. If the senior guy said it more than 1 guy, then it is stupid. The Japanese establishment has to do what it has to do.

Maybe the diplomat was frustrated? There was that spat over some islands and the Japanese and South Koreans stopped cooperating on air defense. How much of the disputes are for election time?

If there is oil, fish or minerals would it not be fucking easier for a chaebol and a keiretsu to get together to form 50/50 joint venture?

Since fish stocks are in trouble why not make the sea surround such an island off limits and a sanctuary.

I wish the leaders in Seoul and Tokyo would get together and hammer out a lasting peace between the two Koreas.

"After all, Baekje and Japanese royal families intermarried and Baekje refugees (including princes) fled to Japan after the defeat inflicted by the Tang-Silla alliance in 660. Relations between Japan and Korea continued on and off over the course of the following centuries."

Yes, the two Koreas. Fighting can be utterly useless.
