Defense News: Lockheed’s F-35 topples competition in Swiss fighter contest

WASHINGTON — Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has emerged victorious in Switzerland’s $6.5 billion fighter competition, beating out entrants from Eurofighter, Dassault and Boeing.

Over the course of the program, Switzerland plans to spend up to 6 billion Swiss francs (U.S. $6.5 billion) to buy 36 F-35A conventional-takeoff-and-landing models to replace its aging Hornet fleet, the government announced Wednesday.

Switzerland will also purchase five Patriot missile defense systems from Raytheon Technologies, which defeated the SAMP/T system from France’s Eurosam.

The win is a massive coup for Lockheed, strengthening the company’s F-35 sales campaign in Europe and dealing a harsh blow to the Eurofighter Typhoon — which is manufactured by a consortium comprising Italy’s Leonardo, the U.K.’s BAE Systems, and Airbus, which represents Spain and Germany. Lockheed also beat out the Dassault Rafale and Boeing’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.

Just FYI
In a war against China our few hundred planes won't last long
Over decades our "leaders"(read: incompetent and treasonous cabal) moved all heavy manufacturing to China.
Most people in the UK, where I live, or even Germany and the US for that matter, work in the service industry.. banking.. consulting.. programming...apps
While the Chinese build things
Guess what's needed in a war? Steel.. heavy metals..raw earth.. energy
The Biden admin and previous Democrat and Republican's RINOs(Romney) have shipped all these jobs over and dismantled key industries like energy and steel, making us all targets of Chinese aggression

Riddle me this: how can a public official that worked all his life in politics and accomplished nothing but what I would call treason, how does this guy end up with a new worth of hundreds of millions of dollars on a salary smaller than mine?

And answer this: what do we do with traitors on such level?

Remember the dumbbells' that said the F-35 was a piece of junk! LOL!!!

That question won't be answered until it's in a peer foe conflict and proves itself like the F15 did.

I agree with Fazman. It is the Panther V versus T 34 argument. If you could have equal number of Vs and 34s, the Vs might have the edge based on range finding, radios and other items. Radios was a big deal. Russians had very few in their tanks.

You have to consider uptime or reliability, operational tempo, and budget.

F15s will work good given good avionics and missiles. Planes should be treated as carriers, missile carriers, if missile are so damn good.

I also agree with 7:51.

there are going to be part shortages. It is like a person damming a stream up river of you in the Old West. Look at the supply chain.

It is like you are going up against Mordor, which is part of your supply chain, and there is no ring to destroy to make things better.

I have ever understood how we were going to get a few battalions of butthead marines to go ashore in China and stand watch over Chinese workers in Chinese factories like they were shotgun toting prison guards to force those Chinese workers to make things the US needs and ship it to the US for the US war effort.

The long term maintenance costs will be detrimental, but the fighter is far superior to the others

This is a F35 discussion and Fred has to talk politics when there are political blog posts before and after.

Fred is some kind of desperate.
