CNN: US warns China it stands behind South China Sea ruling and is committed to Philippine defense
Washington (CNN)United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reaffirmed the US' commitment to defend the Philippines' armed forces from attack in the South China Sea, under a 70-year-old mutual defense treaty.
Blinken made the comments Sunday, in a statement marking the fifth anniversary of a ruling by an independent arbitration tribunal rejecting China's expansive territorial claims over the waterway, siding with the Philippines.
Tensions in the South China Sea, which is also contested by Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam have ratcheted up this year, with Manila accusing Beijing of trying to intimidate its coast guard vessels, as well as sending its so called "maritime militia" to crowd out Philippine fishing boats.
The US' top diplomat said the US could invoke the US-Philippine mutual defense pact in the event of any Chinese military action against Philippine assets in the region.

The Phillipines have 198 million people. Maybe if Xi puts his head to it, he can do to the Filipinos what he is doing to the Uighurs.
Xi being partially crazy and with eyes bigger than his stomach is making an enemy of the Phillipines when eh should be making a friend. If they are a friend and are to remain a friend it can't be take, take, take.
China wants or says it has Wolf Warriors. Well Xi has not watched enough nature films. Wolves, coyotes and probably every other animal has trust counter built in. They count how many times you helped them and how many times you fucked them and make decisions accordingly. Are China's wolf warriors to be lobotomized wolf warriors? Maybe China should think of The Phillipines as Ukraine. The NAZIOS raped Ukraine instead of allying with Ukraine and lost the war, They should have lost. They were assholes.
The Phillipines are a poorer country. They are also the people the beat the Hell out of the Spanish and would have beaten the hell out of the Germans, who were sniffing around. It took 2 years for the US to subdue the Phillipines and being there was a mistake. The Filipinos fought hard against the Japanese in WW2. While a poor country , The Phillipines has vitality.
China's mistake is the US's gain. The US needs all the help we can get. Look at our leadershit.
