* He served in the special forces before studying at Harvard and working in the Pentagon as special assistant to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff
* Donahue, a two star general, deployed to Afghanistan in mid August and was given the job of maintaining security at the airport
The final U.S. soldier to leave Afghanistan after 20 years at war has been named as Major General Christopher Donahue, who was pictured striding onto the last plane out of Kabul on Monday.
Donahue, commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division, left the country on an Air Force transport plane which carried a remaining contingent of troops from Kabul airport.
Gen. Frank McKenzie, head of U.S. Central Command, said the last planes took off from Kabul airport at 3:29pm Washington time on Monday, or one minute before midnight in Kabul.

He is trying to recreate "We Were Soldiers (2002)" Difference was that officer was not copying anyone and he fought the Viet Cong to standstill.
Donohue was safer walking up that ramp than he had been a month ago. The Taliban want us out of their hair, so they can set up a proper despotate. So orders were given other than an obligatory and deniable suicide bombing or two.
