WNU Editor: OMG!!!! President Biden just responded to an NPR reporter that that was not the question that he was suppose to ask. And so he gives an answer that has no relation to the question that was asked. And then President Biden leaves the room refusing to take any questions.

Oof. I know people make mistakes when speaking but he is doing it constantly. He even said the Afghan forces were made up of "300 persons". We know he meant 300 thousand but come on. Highlight for me was the reporter screaming "WHY DO YOU CONTINUE TO TRUST THE TALIBAN MR PRESIDENT?!"
There is fair criticism of the last administration trying to negotiate with the Taliban given who the Taliban are and what they stand for...however...tell me what you think WNU given your experience at the UN ect...but I feel like you can negotiate with anyone so long as you have sufficient leverage. The problem isn't that Trump / Pompeo negotiated with them (just as the Obama administration did, and the Bush administration did all at various points) but the problem is that the Biden administration is suddenly negotiating with the Taliban when we no longer have any leverage at all, and in fact, through our hasty retreat and poor accounting of our own people and those of our allies, have gifted the Taliban immense leverage just as we suddenly want something from them.
Over and over the president repeated that we were or would do everything in our power etc...but we are in a historic moment where specifics are warranted. Everything in our power is what, exactly, at this point? We have no power left but either hollow threats or spineless begging to the Taliban.

Sad to say but the only leverage the White House has over the Taliban is on how much they are going to pay them to get the last US citizens out of the country.
Not the only leverage. If the president was mecurial or crazy, the US could go right back in and slaughter the Taliban.
You would have to threaten Pakistan of course. No visas for Pakistanis. Putting Pakistan on the targetting list and more.
He was sharper than I expected, but still slurring wide and forgetting details.

The questions with corresponding answers written on the papers he shuffles on the podium. A lot of Americans don’t pay attention but our allies do as well as the Chinese and Russians. Sad state of affairs and our Nation will pay the price.
Biden remains in office because even the diehard Democrats dictating the answers to him know Harris will be a loose cannon. She might tell them she’s going to make her own decisions if they invoke the 25th Amendment and scuttle the President. Terrifying prospect. You think the press was hiding Biden’s flaws, wait until Harris is sworn in. Everything she does will be cast as perfect and correct. No one will dare go against her because they will be excoriated as a misogynist racist.
