President Biden Restates Commitment To Afghan Drawdown Amid Taliban Offensive. Blames Former President Trump For The Disaster Unfolding In Afghanistan

Daily Mail: McCarthy says Afghan withdrawal is an 'embarrassment' but Biden blames Trump's deal with the Taliban and says he 'can't make Kabul fight': INCREASES troop deployment for evacuation to 5,000

* President Biden has defended the American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, and insisted: 'One more year, or five more years, of US military presence would not have made a difference'

* The withdrawal was blasted by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy as an 'embarrassment to our nation'

* Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell called for airstrikes against the Taliban on Friday

* US Embassy will be evacuated in 72 hours, with some staffers already at Kabul airport, according to reports

* News of the evacuation broke shortly after the Taliban took the northern Afghan stronghold of Mazar-i-Sharif, and now controls the territories to the North, South and East of Kabul

* US Embassy staff in Kabul will destroy 'sensitive' materials, which a Department of State spokesperson said was 'standard operating procedure' to avoid propaganda efforts

* The first two waves of 5,000 Marines and Army soldiers arrived to help evacuate Kabul and the rest are expected to reach the city by Sunday evening

* Officials said two Marine battalions and an Army battalion were deployed to the Embassy

* The Taliban has moved within seven miles of Kabul and tightened their grip around the capital

* Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said, 'Afghanistan is in serious danger of instability'

* He said he's engaging with Afghan and international leaders, and consultations are 'urgently ongoing and the results will soon be shared'

* President Joe Biden was on his way to Camp David in Maryland on Friday but didn't speak to reporters and hasn't made any public comments Saturday

President Biden has defended the American troop withdrawal from Afghanistan even as the Taliban take over whole swathes of the country - and has blamed predecessor Donald Trump for a deal that left the warlords 'in the strongest position militarily since 2001'.

He also announced that he was increasing the number of US troops being deployed to protect the withdrawal from the US embassy to 5,000.

Around 1,000 service members are already on the ground and 3,000 more were already being sent next week, before officials announced the deployment of an extra 1,000 as the situation escalated Saturday.

The US Embassy in Afghanistan will be evacuated in 72 hours under the protection of the military, and some staffers have already arrived at the Kabul international airport, according to reports.

WNU Editor: I do not call this a U.S. drawdown. This is a mass evacuation with panic in the air.

As for blaming former President Trump for this disaster. It is not working. The media is overwhelmingly blaming President Biden.

Update: Former President Trump has responded to President Biden blaming him for the unfolding disaster .... Trump slams Biden for not 'following the plan' he left on Afghanistan (The Hill).

As for blaming Trump "not working," it's still early. The leadership class isn't quite sure what to do just yet. I think they really thought the Afghans would resist the Taliban as opposed to welcome them with open arms. Of course anyone paying attention would've easily foreseen what we're seeing now.

In the coming weeks it seems likely to me that blaming Trump will be successful. Trump has been bankshed to internet backwaters and has been reduced to desperate emails and texts begging and pleading for funding. WNU is still paying attention to him perhaps. Few others are. He's no longer relevant.

Of course he has to "respond" but no one is paying attention to his "response." I do get the distinct feeling the media is enjoying this.

On Afghanistan fiasco, even CNN points the finger straight at Joe Biden

Veteran war correspondent Peter Bergen blames BIDEN.

Monica Showalter is of the opinion that the disaster would have happened under Trump as well.

I will note that Obama wanted out and declared victory in 2014.

Everyone in Washington secretly wants out, but to blame it on scapegoat Trump. Well, everyone but those making money on a sputtering war.

It has been pointed out that the Taliban is betting better financed every year especially form the drug trade. How much better financed they can become is unknown by this commenter, but realistically are you ever going to win if they have a safe have in Pakistan and such large cash flows? Plus FATA provides a terrific creche to grow new fighters every year.

We left South Vietnam and the South Vietnamese held off the goddamn communists for 3 years until democrats cut aid. But Afghanistan is horrible. WNU is surmising that American trained pilots are siding with the Taliban to fly helicopters. To save their lives? amoral or just waiting their chance for years?

Greenfield is of the opinion that you can make tribal society into a Democracy. Well at least not overnight or perhaps a generation. So he is of the opinion that nation building of tribal societies id a waste, if I read his article correctly.

To have all but the capital fall in 8 days is proof that maybe we did the wrong thing in staying for so long.

The best that I have read is that tribal societies in Europe transformed to kingdoms and then nations starting in the Dark Ages, Basically, the kings said they were the law and took the law away from the clans and tribes around 700 AD (Charlemagne). The king's law was not necessarily fairer or more moral, but it broke the tribes. How long does that take? Can it be sped up?

IMO any time a dedicated Taliban steps out of Afghanistan they need to be terminated with extreme prejudice in such a way to make torture from any period look like a day at the fair.

Anon (12:26),

The last sentence is spot on. This will require good intelligence and frankly I'm not sure US (un)intelligence is up to such a task and even if they were they would need to adjust their focus. Currently their primary focus is on a phantom of "white supremacy" that doesn't exist. They must shadow box with it though!! In the meantime real threats gain strength!!

For the past few years Americans have been almost at war with one another. They've taken their eyes off all of the balls. They've been concentrating on dividing themselves along the lines of race, sex & other sub categories of identity politics. The Democrat government is busy brining in unknown immigrants by the hundreds of thousands. The Blitz Jihad in Afghanistan is just a foretaste of what could happen in other parts of the world if the US political ruling class don't start pulling together & sort themselves out. Keep ducking 🙈

Both President Trump and President Biden abandoned Afghanistan. Maybe they are right to do it, but it is a lie for each to blame the other.

Trump campaigned for president on pulling out of Afghanistan. Joe Biden campaigned on the status quo. There was no victory possible when Pakistan remaining undefeated and giving aid to the Taliban. Pakistan and allies could go into Afghanistan, but Afghanistan and allies could not go into Pakistan. That is asymmetric as you can get.

That is asymmetric as fuck.

You cannot win that way.

Biden is a loser and Trump is not.

Besides Obama declare victory in 2014 and Biden was part of the Obama administration and so by extension is part of the victory declaration.

Look guys, both parties are responsible for Afghanistan and the misery it caused and the 2+trillion dollar bill

In fact, the Afghans and other nations might think, YOU the people of America are guilty. After all you voted them into office

That's how collective guilt works.
That's what CRT is about. Collective guilt for racism you haven't done and collective guilt for wars you didn't want.

And they're part right. Just with the added insanity to hold you guilty for crimes that came hundreds of years before you were born lol

Either way. The race tensions, the gender tensions, those are all artificially created through programming systems like CNN masquerading as news and hiding behind press choir credentials so you're not allowed to lynch them for dividing your nation while the great reset is ushered in after your economies have been brought down through unnecessary lockdowns and unnecessary wars, the same media that you're not allowed to attack, talked you into

And if you attack them they'll use the law to the full force against you. Even if you attack them verbally.

The declare you a terrorist, while they terrorise your population and populations abroad

Equality under the law is gone
Censorship is rampant
Forced injections

They are now building detention centres and define lockdown opponents and election doubters as terrorists.

You know, these are the hallmarks of a collapsing democracy.

In all countries they have the camps now where they propose the great reset

UK
Canada
France
US

You know what this is, right?
Tyranny

And what do we do with tyrants?

Just asking
