National Review: Defense Officials Sidestep Concerns over Taliban Blocking Off Airport, Beating Would Be Evacuees

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby on Tuesday sidestepped questions about how the U.S. plans to respond to reports that the Taliban is stopping and beating people who attempt to acccess the airport in Kabul, where the U.S. military is facilitating evacuations from Afghanistan in the wake of a Taliban takeover.

Kirby said during a press briefing that U.S. military commanders at the Kabul international airport are in communication with Taliban commanders on the ground outside the airport. He declined to further detail those discussions, saying only that he would “let the results speak for themselves.”

Update: Taliban Checkpoints Blocking Access to Kabul Airport for U.S. Residents and Allies (Intercept).

WNU Editor: Some flights leaving Kabul airport are only partially filled. It is obvious that people are being blocked from getting to the airport to be flown out .... Afghanistan: Germany justifies evacuating just 7 on first Kabul flight (DW).

And now I am hearing this. The Pentagon negotiating (begging?) Taliban commanders to permit safe passage to the airport. The last thing that the Taliban are going to do is accommodate what the U.S. wants. This also tells me that the US has no plan.

There is growing desperation among foreign nationals in Afghanistan. Reports that the Taliban are now going house to house searching for non-Afghans is terrifying everyone. U.S. citizens are now reaching out to anyone and everyone back in Washington for help.... Biden must rescue thousands of U.S. citizens trapped in Afghanistan (Washington Post).

Make no mistake about it. The U.S. and its allies are now facing a very real possibility of a mass hostage situation .... or worse.

With the type of woke people in charge of western countries & institutions, are they prioritising the evacuation of Afghan citizens over the evacuation of their own? Keep the faith 🙉

This is horrifying and awful. I agree WNU about the hostage situation that's probably coming. I seriously wish that this lousy admin would let the 6 or 7 thousand troops just sent in to kick some taliban ass and clear the encircled airport. They could probably do it relatively easily. Sadly I think they won't do that and show weakness by trying to 'negotiate' instead.

So true and so depressing.

Unknown,

Not exactly. The usurping admin said it would not prioritize Americans over others.
