Times of Israel/AFP: As thousands flee Afghanistan, Taliban-supporting refugees want in

‘There’s no war and peace has been established,’ says one man waiting in Pakistan, complaining authorities aren’t letting them cross the border

CHAMAN, Pakistan — From trucks stuffed with carpets, bedding, clothes and even goats, around 200 Afghan refugees look beyond the horizon toward Spin Boldak in their country’s south, waiting to return home from Pakistan.

Dreading another period of harsh rule after the Taliban’s rapid takeover following the US troop withdrawal, thousands have been desperately trying to flee Afghanistan, with chaotic images emerging from the Kabul airport.

But some families want to repatriate to their homeland, saying the Taliban will bring stability to the war-torn nation.

Their arrival should shake up China, Russia, the "Stans" and others.

I'm kind of skeptical of the numbers that for every one who wants to return there are one hundred who want out. Without direct inside knowledge of events concerning Afghanistan in real time it is "impossible" to know with 100% certainty what is happening. For all I really know, it could be the other way around. For every one who wants out, there are 100 who want to return home.

The best many of can likely hope for in terms of "sources" is someone who has or had access to real time information recently enough that their information and analysis can be deemed credible. Even then they have to be vetted. Then it comes down to the track record. If they have a track record of being accurate in the past, it is reasonable inference that we can trust them in the present and vice versa.

I had been led to believe by a multitude of sources that I reasonably believed to be correct that the previous Taliban government was just as bad and in many cases worse than the Taliban. Essentially what this meant was/is the previous government was every bit as abusive to the Afghans as the Taliban and in some cases worse. Essentially when the new boss came in he was every bit as bad and worse as the old one!! Suffice it to say based upon the information we have we then analyze it and try and make decisions. If our information is incorrect, then obviously the analysis is incorrect. In cases where we are provided information we do not have direct access to and this turns out to be incorrect, our analysis will likely be incorrect in these instances as well.

What does seem clear is the leadership class combined with the military leadership and the various intel agencies worked tirelessly to oust Trump and get Biden elected. As such, they are NOT going to allow Biden or his team to be embarrassed and will go to any length to prevent this. The Taliban are likely aware of this. Right now they have a country that is incredibly blessed with rare earth elements. They will want to keep this country and will likely act accordingly. Essentially they will be allowed to talk big at times but in substance they will be kept on a very tight leash while the US in substance does whatever it wants in Afghanistan when it wants to do it.

As of right now, this is my take on this. Time will tell if my take is accurate.
