Much ink has already been spilled lamenting the end of the post-Cold War era of American hegemony and the emergent strategic competition with Russia and China.
Moscow has been described as a manipulative alien power, which, since at least the invasion of Crimea, has been seen as subverting American democracy and world stability.
But this telling severely undersells how much the burden of the current state of affairs falls squarely on the West’s shoulders.
Russia could not have achieved what it has without a healthy mix of complacency and wishful thinking on our part. The latest example of this has been Washington’s decision to lift sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Andrew A. Michta is an ass. No more needs to be said, but it will be said. He used the word hegemony which is a very freighted word despite the dictionary definition not being so.
It is galling to be called a hegemon, but as soon as you want to move your troops out, they plead don't leave. Germany did exactly that.
The US is supposedly a hegemon and yet it goes bankrupt supporting Germany, which puts it in neutral content to be carried along.
Th US is such a hegemon that Germany picks out a cush jobs as an ally. It picked out North Afghanistan, because it was at the time farthest away for the Enemy, Pakistan, and thus farthest away for the heaviest fighting.
If you are a true hegemon, you make your "allies" take the brunt of the fighting, such as the Romans did to the Goths at the Battle of Frigidus River or the Byzantines did with the Vandals against Sassanian Persia.
But no, Germany got the plum job of Mazaz-i-Sharif and the pipsqueaks pipe up, when we want to leave Afghanistan.
It makes you wonder how much Russian cock Merkel sucked in college.
NS1 and NS2 were championed in Germany by the former SDP Chancellor of Germany, Gerhad Schroeder. He is now a senior executive working in the Russian oil and gas business personally recruited by Vlad Putin.
Do you think the corruption that won NS2 in Germany will stay there? No, gas politics money will infiltrate Europe slowly and surely to swing domestic and foreign policy towards Russian goals. While Russian goals aren't always aligned with Chinese goals, they are aligned perfectly to weaken if not end US influence in Europe. That's the big prize and don't scoff. Who thought China would be a peer nation to the USA 10-15 years ago?
In short this is a disaster to the European wing in Washington and lays the ground for Trump II, further economic pressure on Europe and reduced US military protections.
American voters, especially the liberal ones, don't care about such things, in large part because the American corportate media don't report on such things. They are both far more concerned with keeping their PC credentials in good working order than in what is actually happening in the world around them, outside of their tiny political and social bubbles.
Guys, there is a global cabal that is not interested in nation states...

sure, sure, they'll still have flags and you still will have a military, but in reality, nations have been bankrupted by consulting companies like goldman sachs, mckinsey and bain .. they "consulted" (read: colluded with) governments around the world and helped them to transfer ALL YOUR WEALTH (all the public's wealth) into ridiculous projects, foreign wars and so on
trillions have been taken from you and it always goes from everyone else to the oligarchs and from west to east (thanks to offshoring, which was, by the way invented by McKinsey in the late 80s and since then ruthlessly implemented, to a) steal your money, b) take and redistribute your power and c) align everything into a global government

It's about eradicating currencies and independent nation states (what, you are a "nationalist"??? you RACIST! see how that goes? nationalism just means you want your nation to do well.. it's like patriotism).. same with Trump.. he said he was a nationalist, who wanted to put america first (and he was loved for that around the World, because people believed - right or wrong - that he cared about the people, NOT about centralizing power and corruption)
Big corporations do not want nationalists.. they want globalists because the biggest pain for big corporations is doing transnational business, across borders, currencies and different laws. They want NO border, just ONE group of people to deal with, and ideally wants it corrupt.
Since local decision making has been moved further and further away from the general population to centres like Washington and Brussel NO ONE feels that democracy is still working for them.. corruption spreads tremendously once you centralise power, because these McKinseys then just go to Brussel and focus their corruption efforts there instead having to deal with independent nation states who want perhaps their people to do well
Brussel is corrupt

any large body, like the WHO become corrupted, because it's much easier to do and in such large bodies NO ONE of the general population has any influence.. and they don't deal with you or me, they only talk to large corporations.. the largest actually, they don't even talk to you if you don't crack a few tens of billion in revenue
