Does the Navy really need a successor to the Burke-class destroyer? Probably not. U.S. Navy
Loren Thompson, Forbes: The Navy Says It Can’t Afford To Fully Modernize. So What Should It Give Up?
The Navy League of the United States this week presented Washington’s premier annual exposition of all things maritime.
Called Sea-Air-Space 2021, the three-day event was a reminder that defending the nation is big business.
Over 300 vendors exhibited, and all the available space in the cavernous Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center was sold out.
Viewing the diverse wares being offered and the size of the crowds—thousands every day—a casual observer could easily conclude that happy days are here again for the nation’s sea services.

WNU Editor: I concur with Loren Thompson. The proposed next-generation destroyer designated DDG(X) will probably be put on the chopping block. But for the moment, the monye is there for a second destroyer .... House bill would allow Navy to retire cruisers early, adds funds to build second destroyer (Defense News).

Well, a few things the Navy can get rid of to save A LOT of money
1. Social justice/wokeism that their own report has shown consumes up to 5-10% of daily routines and fills inboxes. All that woke training. It's not only completely racist, divisive and based on lies and for that reason alone it should be removed immediately from daily tasks, but it's also extremely expensive if you have such a catastrophic loss of time. We are talking billions if you consider the number of personnel involved and for how long this has been going on. You could buy 2-4 medium sized warships with that. Further, this time lost is also weakening the safety of the personnel and of the nation as a whole, undermining the very essence of the navy. Also, wokeism throug its divisive nature and its racially motivated targeting of white people leads to a fracture of teams, less communication, more tribalism and a break down of morale. And as we all know, low morale and low engagement leads to disasters, and lower productivity as people feel harassed and violated by such racist cult doctrine
2) get tough on spies. The navy has one of the biggest research funds in the world. Billions and billions. When you have China and other nations spy on you and you barely punish those you catch, you're basically saying hey come on in, steal our research, we won't do much if anything about it. So the theft accelerates, and once you lose that IP you have to invest more and more to stay competitive and you cannot get as much revenue through licence to other countries as they certainly won't like it if the technology they license was stolen and its blueprints are on the dark net. Why pay for it.. and it's a huge security issue which often forces design and material or software changes
