White House Backtracks President Biden's Remarks Where He Appears To Say US Would Defend Taiwan Against China

The Guardian: White House backtracks after Biden appears to say US would defend Taiwan against China

Administration official plays down president’s comment comparing Taiwan commitments to those in Nato, saying US policy has not shifted

A senior Biden administration official said US policy on Taiwan had not changed after President Joe Biden appeared to suggest the US would defend the island if it were attacked, a deviation from a long-held US position of “strategic ambiguity”.

In an interview aired by ABC News on Thursday, Biden was asked about the effects of the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan and responses in Chinese media telling Taiwan this showed Washington could not be relied on to come to its defence.

Biden replied that Taiwan, South Korea and Nato were fundamentally different situations to Afghanistan and appeared to lump Taiwan together with countries to which Washington has explicit defence commitments.

I guess I will backtrack on I disagree with what you say, but I defend your right to day it.

Who are these people?

One of the big 3 in the 1980s, Time, News Week or US & World report, had an infographic on NATO versus evil bloc force comparisons.

Given the nature of free search engines, I won't be able to dig it out without a lot of work as they are first in last out. Search Engines works as The Ministry of Truth by happenstance/cheap design. Except LexisNexis which takes trust fund baby money to to purchase for an individual. But here is an official infographic, which tells the same story.

Chart showing NATO-Warsaw Pact force comparison (in place in Europe-1981),

The USSR had way more tanks, tubes, aircraft and men on the Western front. Face it, it you signed up for the US military, you did not have much of an life expectancy, if the Big One kicked off. The book "Red Storm Rising" comes close to what it would be like without going nuclear. It comes the closest, but it puts a big Happy Face on it as the West wins and the reader does not have to think about the death count.

The series Deutshland 83 covers the angst of the Cold War standoff well from the German and American side. More angst on the German than the American side. The series is 6 episodes long and is highly watchable despite the fact that critics like it.

So here is the point. millions of volunteers were under the gun in the late 70s and through 80s and they do not act like cowards. Today we have a large clique in Washington that does.

I am not going to do it. I am not advocating it. But does it cross your mind that the pencil neck geeks of no real knowledge have punchable faces?

Ned Price?
Jake Sullivan?

You can grow up with too easy of a life. Ned and Jake look every inch of it. Problem is that when Biden retires, Ned Price might not be part of the in clique, but he will still be part of the overall m clique and he will be bumping around somewhere in the State Department part of the weak knees clique.

Jesus H. Christ, if you do not have allies, you are not long for the world. And that goes for countries large or small. Rome had lots and lots of allies, if you pay attention. When it didn't it was gone. There is an obvious fucking lesson there.

In the 1980s NATO was outnumbered, but backed up by nukes. We might be outnumbered now, but we are backed up by nukes. If those fucking dweebs in the White House and the Beltway do not have any nerve we are lost.

We need to have a fair election as soon as possible.

It probably is not possible. In California in broad daylight, they are designing mail in ballots, so you can see how a person voted for the recall of a sitting Democrat. You know in a fair election he is gone, but it appears that the Democrats will pull off another steal.

Jesus we are FUCKED!

This time period has always been interesting to me so thanks for the info. Red Storm Rising is my favorite book from Clancy and I've read them all that he wrote solo.
