Tom Rogan, Washington Examiner: China threatens to send warships inside US territorial waters
China, on Wednesday, threatened to send warships into U.S. territorial waters.
The Global Times called on People's Liberation Army Navy warships to travel to "U.S. military bases in the Asia-Pacific and the U.S. allies' coastlines to conduct close-in reconnaissance operations and declare freedom of navigation."
The editorial added that "the U.S. will definitely see the PLA show up at its doorstep in the not-too-distant future."
This isn't simple ranting.
The Global Times operates under Central Foreign Affairs Commission Director Yang Jiechi . Its words represent a credible threat. Why is China so furious?

A few months ago it was Iran sending a ship of death across the Atlantic to threaten our precious bodily fluids. It turned to starboard and sailed to the Baltic. Now the big bad China meanies are the prop used for threat inflation and a domestic political cudgel.

The key statement is “inside territorial waters “. Nobody cares if they are sailing off the coastline. Let’s see what happens once they start breaking international law on our doorstep. I wonder what the American people will say about that.

12 miles is the international limit for territorial waters. It is literally over the horizon for anyone standing on the beach.
So fuck China's noise. 'Freedom of Navigation' has been USN's mission since its very beginning, be it the Barbary coast or nearly 200 years late, the Gulf of Sidra, practically next door. Then there's the Horn of Africa and the Somalis.
And the Straits of Malacca have been - and are even today - the worst pirate waters. A gateway to the South China Sea, and China does jack shit about it, so the rest of the world's deep water navies have done that job.
China can erect all the false islands they want in that Sea, USN and others are not going to stop transiting. Hell we are failing by staying 12 miles away from that pimple.
/We ought to be announcing a live fire sub launched nuclear missile detonation at the grid location of that artificial island and give them one week to evacuate personnel.
