Newsweek: Chinese State Media Warns of 'Severe' Military Measures if Taiwan Office in U.S. Changes Name
In China on Sunday, a state-run media outlet warned of "severe" military and economic consequences against Taiwan if Washington allows the self-ruled island to change the name of its representative office in the U.S.
The Global Times referred to a Financial Times report from Friday saying that President Joe Biden's administration is considering allowing the office to change its name from the "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office" (TECRO) to the "Taiwan Representative Office."
The Chinese paper warned such a change would seriously anger Beijing and provoke a "severe" military and economic response:
"If the U.S. and the Taiwan island change the names, they are suspected of touching the red line of China's Anti-Secession Law, and the Chinese mainland will have to take severe economic and military measures to combat the arrogance of the U.S. and the island of Taiwan. At that time, the mainland should impose severe economic sanctions on the island and even carry out an economic blockade on the island, depending on the circumstances."

How do you put people in solitary for 6 months or 9 months during a pretrial period and there is no charge of insurrection? Not one charge of insurrection. Not one?
It is safer to walk around in China at night in the dark than in most people's home towns. In Beijing there was only one place I would have bene worried walking around alone. I was on a city bus passing the shell of a 2 story bodega type store and there were some lean looking migrants hanging out the 2nd story window, who looked like they didn't know, where their next meal was coming from.
Where I live the local private college that made the MSM periodical list of best colleges is a dangerous campus (on or off). Going off campus is dangerous. Go to a bar on main street 1.2 miles from campus after 11PM and you can get fucked up pretty bad or just robbed, a regular occurrence. If you have a vehicle, you get to be an Uber driver for your robber and drop them off at the nearby public housing complex .6 or 1.3 miles from campus.
It is said or alleged that the CCP is trying to lift Chinee out of poverty, because they are afraid if they do not. You could make a strong case they are not doing so out of altruism. But they are doing it or trying. Compare that to DC where good manufacturing jobs have left, we have drug epidemics, told 5 to 7 % unemployment is natural, politicians regularly call people stupid, steal elections and import dirt poor, illiterate and unskilled people. By comparison the Chinese leaders seem compassionate.
