Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley took a series of extraordinary actions after the Jan. 6th Capitol riot because he was concerned an 'unstable' President Trump might undertake military action in a desperate bid to stay in office, according to Bob Woodward's bombshell new book.
The efforts included Milley as the top ranking military officer meeting with top military officials in the Pentagon two days after the MAGA riot and telling them to keep him in the process for all military actions, including the use of nuclear weapons.
It also included outreach to Milley's counterpart in the Chinese military to provide reassurances the US would not strike its rival, according to the book.

As for Gen. Milley's two calls to his Chinese counterpart. What would happen if China would then use that information to launch their own attack? They have making threats of doing that for the past two years.
This is an incredibly dangerous precedent, and General Milley and those in the Pentagon who took these actions should be held accountable for their actions ASAP.
I also have this gut feeling that President Biden's authority to launch a nuclear strike is also limited.

With the generals refusing to obey the civilian authority that's a coup, then there maybe temptations for enemy countries to take actions if they think that they will get away with it. The USA is divided. The ruling class of politicians & generals is also divided. Despite all of their weapons & budgets, this makes the USA appear weak. Its not just China & Russia the USA has to worry about. There's also Iran & the northern half of Korea. If Milley did the above & contacted the military of an enemy country in this fashion, he needs his collar felt. Everyone in the military, press & politics involved must be arrested. Milley could have discreetly spoke with the military aides to call him, if they thought the president was crazy. The military aides carrying the football are only obligated to follow orders if they are lawful. Someone launching nukes for revenge would not be a lawful order.
Milley should be court marshalled.

2. if court martial now, pardoned.
3. I assume he was not "punished" because Trump and his key people knew nothing about this.
