Has The Afghan Defeat Crippled President Biden's Foreign Policy Agenda?

Biden appeared to check his watch moments after a salute for the bodies of 13 US service members killed in the Kabul blast. He and the first lady made an unannounced trip to Dover Air Force Base to formally receive the fallen troops

WNU Editor: The five images that define Biden's catastrophic Afghanistan exit: Ronald Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan identifies moments that have wrecked his foreign policy legacy

* Biden's handling of the Afghanistan crisis has 'shattered' his credibility on foreign policy, former Reagan communications director wrote in an op-ed

* He said scenes of Afghans desperately clinging to US jets, devastation of the Kabul ISIS-K attack and Biden checking his watch are among his worst moments

* Buchanan also lays blame with Biden's foreign policy aides who advised him

* The president has created a coalition of critics that will 'block or impede any bold foreign policy decision' he makes, Buchanan predicted President Biden handling of the Afghanistan crisis 'shattered' his legacy on foreign policy forever, former Reagan communications director said Friday.

In a scathing op-ed, he isolated it to five defining images that immortalize the chaos and devastation of the waning days of the US's 20-year war into Biden's presidency.

On a personal note. My father was a big fan of Pat Buchanan. He always enjoyed hearing Buchanan talk on why the U.S. should not get involved in foreign wars that have nothing to do with its national security interests.

I seems to me that Buchanan thinks this problem Biden has is merely just political and has to do with optics. In other words, I think he's downplaying Biden's incompetence. He should note the blowback Biden is receiving from NATO countries, because of the damage Biden caused to these relationships and NATO itself. Its becoming very apparent that this is what happens when you have an ideological administration making decisions based on politics and not intelligence.

Politics and intelligence are the same thing to these guys Nico, expect no improvement.

Nico has essentially nailed it. They make decisions based upon ideology which essentially means making decisions based upon how we wish things are or hope they are rather than how they really are.

When a private organization who needs to actually generate income and profits in order to remain viable, it will end badly and very quickly. When governments do this, it will still end badly even though it may take longer.

It's very important that the Afghan withdrawal is objectively studied and we learn from this. The botched execution of something this basic simply shouldn't happen.

We could be at war with China, Russia, or both of them and some combination of their allies at anytime. If we're unable to execute a basic redeployment such as this, doing something extremely complex like confronting major world powers and winning on the battlefield is going to problematic at best.

Due in large part to poor leadership there's a strong probability that we currently on the level militarily of Russia, China, or their allies. Since we're likely going to be at war with either or both of them soon, it's vital that we fix our weaknesses to ensure we are on their level when should this military confrontation take place. Part of this obviously means studying Afghanistan beginning with the sloppy withdrawal and purging the failed leaders.
