Polish President Declares A State Of Emergency On The Belarus Border Over Migrant Surge

 

DW: Polish president declares 'state of emergency' at Belarus border amid migration row 

Polish officials cited a "difficult and dangerous" situation on the border with Belarus. Tension has grown in recent weeks over groups of migrants attempting to cross into the EU. 

Polish President Andrzej Duda has ordered a state of emergency in parts of two regions bordering Belarus, his spokesman said on Thursday. 

The move is unprecedented in Poland's post-communist history. It comes amid heightened tensions between Belarus and its neighbors over a sharp increase in migration. 

According to the order signed by Duda — at the request of the government — gatherings of people will be banned on a 3-kilometer-wide strip along the border. 

The 30-day state of emergency goes into effect as soon as it is published in Poland's official gazette, Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski said.

WNU Editor: Most of the migrants on the Belarus - Polish border are from the Middle East, and these numbers are still small. But the concern for everyone in Europe right now is the massive influx of Afghan refugees that are expected in the coming months and in 2022. 

Europeans do not want another migrant wave, and here is a little heads-up to my American readers. The anger in Europe towards the Biden administration for causing this catastrophe is growing. A lot of my European friends were not happy with former President Trump, but this pales to how angry they are now towards President Biden.

Good to hear about the sentiment of the EU. I figured Poland would be condemned for opposing immigration.
