Top U.S. General Says Civil War 'Likely' In Afghanistan And A Surge In Terror Groups

Newsweek: Gen. Mark Milley Says Civil War 'Likely' in Afghanistan, 'Growth' in Terror Groups

General Mark Milley has said that a civil war in Afghanistan is "likely" following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the country and this could lead to a growth in terror groups.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff spoke to Fox News's Jennifer Griffin during a visit to Ramstein in Germany on Saturday.

There is a major U.S. airbase there that's currently processing Afghan evacuees.

His remarks about a possible civil war come as the Taliban is attempting to consolidate its position in Afghanistan but is facing resistance from opposition fighters in the Panjshir Valley.

Milley was asked if he believed the U.S. was safer following the troop drawdown and said it was too early to say.

"My military estimate is...that the conditions are likely to develop of a civil war," the general said. "I don't know if the Taliban is gonna be able to consolidate power and establish governance. They may be, maybe not," he said.

Miley was selected by the leadership class for his position. As they hand picked him, this explains why he hasn't been fired. It's hard to just cut a loved one loose.

As for a "Civil War" just whose going to oppose the Taliban. In order to have a "civil war" you need at least two viable factions. At this point, I'm not seeing a viable faction to the Taliban anywhere unless we count ISIS-K or whoever they are!!

Nobody will be fired...they know too much.

I trust General Milley: it just needs to take the apposite of his saying.

This is what this guy was trained and paid by us to do " provide a military assessment" of the situation. Instead we get "likely" "maybe maybe not" utterances.

Right or wrong make an assessment!

Milley would do less harm, if he retired and became a transsexual model wearing women's lingerie. The Taliban were well in their way to winning the last civi8la war against the Northern Alliance. The had assassinated the Northern Alliance leader and with the help of 1,000 Al Qaeda plus Pakistani military advisers they were in the process of grinding the Tajiks into dust. Only the arrival of the US saved the Northern Alliance.

With Pakistani help, Al Qaeda's help, the gifts from Biden and drone warfare as practiced by Azerbaijan, this civil war is not going to last 5 years like the last one.

Milley is a waterboy and an idiot. The US would be better off swapping Millet for Ron Jeremy. Ron Jeremy is an ogre, but he is smarter than Milley.
