Newsweek: China Says Warplane Exercises Are Warnings to Taiwan and U.S.
A Chinese government official confirmed Wednesday that recent military exercises near Taiwan were intended as warnings to the island's independence supporters and "external forces"—an indirect hint at the United States.
Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office (TAO) in Beijing, spoke after Taiwan's Defense Ministry detected 153 People's Liberation Army warplane sorties into the international airspace southwest of the island, including 150 flights in the span of five days.

The Chinese are very warm people and mostly peaceful

Probably so. Most people are, I think. It's the leadership that causes problems.
Typical Chinese - create a conflict, provoke and antagonize a peaceful nation. Then proclaim its own belligerent acts to be protecting "peace and stability" in the region. When the exact opposite is the reality.
The Chins are itching to start a war of convenience. Eager to test its forces in combat. /because that went so well for them in the past.
China is a politically isolated, culturally alienated nation. A hated country without the capability to feed or fuel itself without the benevolence of trade adversaries and outright enemies. It's only allies are an orbit of third world debt slaves - who also hate them, but accept their coercive loans.
I think that if Taiwan were to bloody the Chin's nose - IE: shoot down a flight of PLAAF H-6 bombers that dart in and out of their ADIZ, the Chins would smartly reduce, not increase their threat sorties.
