A U.S. Navy nuclear engineer and his wife have been charged with selling secret information about nuclear submarines to an undercover FBI agent who posed as an operative for a foreign country, the Justice Department said on Sunday.
In a criminal complaint detailing espionage-related charges against Jonathan Toebbe, 42, and his wife Diana, 45, the government said he sold information for nearly the past year to a foreign power representative.
The FBI says in April 2020 Toebbe sent a package of Navy documents to a foreign government and wrote that he was interested in selling information on Virginia-class nuclear submarine reactors.

The case seemed timed to the election. So it seems political. I would guess Russia, but it would not make sense as mal was intercepted. So maybe Britain, France or Australia? Maybe the cause was fear of China?

Just as bad was the wide-open grad and post-grad US educational system open to Chinese students for the past 20+ years. Get visa, soak up all the knowledge and tech they can, return to China where that knowledge is immediately put to use by the CCP, the military, or the tech industry. Not to mention all the manufacturing tech know-how they soaked up by means of Western offshoring of entire industries. We ourselves created this monster.

This guy with 12+ years in was making $96,000 or more a year. No idea what a humanities teacher at a private school in Annapolis would make. I figure they pulled down between 135,000 and 200,000 a year. They had a private, stand alone house so that tells you a little something about their income. a banker or real estate agent from that area could tell you their income with fair accuracy. Having a house instead of a rowhouse on the east coast puts them up there. Point is they were not hurting for money.
This is about ideology and they were radicalized by the Democrat party of one of their associated partners.
I had assumed they were Trumpers, when the story first broke given the timing. But no these guys are anti-Trumpers, who have drank the DNC Kool Aid.
They gave it away for 3/4ths of a years pay or 1/3rd of the yearly family income.
