Defense One: US Army to Stage Largest Robot Tank Experiment Ever
Its lessons will inform the Army’s next-gen-unmanned-vehicles plan to ask tech firms to deliver the brains and established firms to deliver the wheels.

Spending lost of money could simply mean you have a large, slow acquisition establishment that devours money.
It has been 30 years or a generation since the fall of the USSR. Russia is no longer broke nor discombobulated. It is smaller in terms of population and GDP, but so was Germany in WW2. WW2 was a near run thing.
The US has been growing mostly by importation of the poor and uneducated. So to assume that the US's larger population means we are better is a mistake.
