Yahoo News: Should the U.S. be willing to go to war to defend Taiwan?
What’s happening
For the past 70 years, Taiwan has existed in a geopolitical gray area. Internally, it governs itself like an independent nation, complete with a strong economy and thriving democratic system. But China has always insisted that the island is part of its territory, a stance that has made other world powers hesitant to recognize Taiwan’s sovereignty.
Chinese leaders have long expressed a desire to bring Taiwan, which sits about 100 miles off China's coast, back under the full control of the mainland communist government.
President Xi Jinping reiterated China's commitment to “reunification” in a speech over the weekend. Xi repeatedly said he sought a “peaceful” way to bring Taiwan back into the fold, but some global affairs experts believe the threat of a military invasion is becoming increasingly likely.

Update: Taiwan tensions raise fears of US-China conflict in Asia (AP)
WNU Editor: In the past this topic (U.S. going to war to defend Taiwan) would never bee brought up. But after the abandonment of Afghanistan by the Biden administration, this is a question that is becoming more and more common.
Update #2: The U.S. is not the only country having this discussion .... Would Australia go to war over Taiwan? (ABC News Australia). And here .... Japan can Only Succeed in Self-Defense if it’s Prepared to Help Defend Taiwan (Japan Forward).

It dependd on how China will conquer Taiwan
Taiwan is not like Afghanistan, It will not be the same. Taiwan will try to retaliate and that will make the region unstable. Very dangerous not only for Taiwan but also for China and everyone not limited to Asia. They are both same blood and that is their big weakness. In case US will depend Taiwan, China will not fight like Afghanistan and US will not act the way they acted in Afghanistan.
US should not risk itself to defend an island not recognized as a nation. Taiwan is an internal China issue. War with China is no joke. US could suffer big losses. Obama's poisonous remake of the US military, with women in positions of authority, and military doctors performing sex reassignment surgery, can not win against China--they could not even beat the long-bearded primitives of the Taliban.
wake up, anon: the world has changed!!
In the 1980s, there was a shift from Soviet to American influence on Chinese military organization. many policies and new regulations were developed in the process of professionalization. But women remain primarily in the roles that they occupied in the recent past. There are no special policies or regulations regarding women in the military, partially due to the persistent emphasis on equal treatment advocated by the Party. Two changes, however, are worthy of note. First, some previously military noncombat roles filled by women have been made civilian roles. Second, with the reestablishment of ranks within the PLA (a form of stratification that had been regarded previously as unsocialist), women received officer rank, including eight women major generals who immediately became public examples of social equality.
If China follows a pattern observed in western industrialized nations, trends toward gender equality in other spheres of life, such as civilian work and family life, may lead eventually to the widening of opportunities in the military where national legislation prohibiting gender discrimination in employment has removed gender-based exclusions from military assignments (Stanley and Segal 1988). But these changes have occurred in a climate of declining numbers of men eligible for military service (while the armed forces remained large) and cultural values fostering gender role changes. Judging from historical precedent in China and other nations, it is unlikely that women will be incorporated into the Chinese armed forces in large numbers or with greatly expanded roles until they have achieved greater equality in other areas of life and/or there is a national crisis which creates a shortage of men qualified for military service.
America only interested in oil and Taiwan has none. So answer is no.
My understanding is the majority of collisions of USNavy vessels in the past decade were either with Female commanders or female duty officers. Now if women can not even avoid peacetime collisions of US Navy vessels, how in the world can the US Navy defeat well manned Chinese Naval vessels in combat situations? It is a hard-to-swallow fact for liberals, brain dead that they are, but women are constitutionally unfit for command roles in the military. That is why the US military will get their clocks cleaned by the Chinese if the USA is stupid enough to go to war with them under these conditions.
