Newsweek: 7 Out of 10 in Taiwan Would Fight China To Stop Forced Unification: Poll

Over 70 percent of respondents in a recent survey in Taiwan said they would fight China if it tried to force "unification" with the island.

The poll, published by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy (TFD) think tank on Wednesday, found 62.7 percent of respondents also would be willing to take up arms if a war broke out because of "Taiwan's declaring formal independence."

Just over one-quarter said they wouldn't fight under such a scenario.

The strikingly high willingness to oppose Beijing "if China uses force against Taiwan"—72.5 versus 18.6 percent—may be a reflection of the question's framing, which usually doesn't include a specific hypothetical circumstance.

Update: Poll says 72.5% of Taiwanese willing to fight against forced unification by China (Taipei Times)

WNU Editor: Only 72% !?!?!? IMHO this is not a very reassuring number. It should be closer to 100%.

Polls like that mean nothing.

It means nothing. But 72% is quite high, lot of unknowns that suggest the 72% is very conservative. Most people don't want to fight, or balk at the idea of killing for their country. Taiwan is not America.

So 72% is very high.

Still every country has its pacifist. Collect all the benefits but don't want to fight for it.

Yes, it may be high in that regard, but if the PLA comes no one really knows what they'll do. This is one reason conflict is the most iffy endeavor of them all. The cemeteries are full of those who followed such polls and the history books are full of those who followed those polls and came out good.

Of course they do Hans, that's just human nature, but what will happen, what people really do, no one really knows.

They are expecting the US will fight and die for them.

The 28% might reflect that they think it is futile not that they agree with the Fucking CCP.

Over 90% of the Taiwanese would unit with mainland China, but it would take a different government.

The CCP cannot maintain a population. Why allow them to govern?

CAN FEMINISM DESTROY CHINA?

7/10 is quite high , and the reality is probably 4/10 once the lead starts flying a d that's probably the same for every western nation. Not everyone has Chechen blood lol
