Reuters: Russia says it may be forced to deploy intermediate nuclear missiles in Europe
MOSCOW (Reuters) -Russia said on Monday it may be forced to deploy intermediate-range nuclear missiles in Europe in response to what it sees as NATO's plans to do the same.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Russia's RIA news agency in an interview that Moscow would have to take the step if NATO refused to engage with it on preventing such an escalation.
His comments further raised the stakes in an East-West standoff in which Russia is demanding security guarantees from the West while the United States and its allies are warning Moscow to pull back from what they see as a possible invasion of Ukraine - something Ryabkov again denied was Russia's intent.

Unfortunately .... my gut is telling me that the Kremlin's proposals on security guarantees are going to be ignored when they are presented in the next week or two .... Putin holds some high cards and is unlikely to make concessions but will make demands.
He already has nuclear missiles in the Koenigsberg enclave threatening Berlin, Poland and further afield.
Putin has Europe’s natural gas supply and its winter in one week.
NATO is fractured internally with the three seas grouping desperate for US backing against Russia and the German block eager to go it’s own way on foreign affairs.
Putin's ace in the hole is Biden.
